CSI_MuNkY Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Whats the deadline for this? Slick, what did you research that made you switch to 3"? I'm intrigued... Jamie EDIT: Guys, I split this discussion from the exhaust system group buy. - Robby1870 Quote
slick Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Whats the deadline for this? Slick, what did you research that made you switch to 3"? I'm intrigued... Jamie I guess for a forced induction vehicle, you actually want as much airflow as possible, and as little resistance as possible in the exhaust. I've been recommended, by several people, to go with a 3". Quote

I do plan to "force" a little more air into the car at some point in the coming years.... Jamie Quote

Going from a 2.25" DP to a 3" exhaust may actually hurt your exhaust flow due to a drop in velocity. Quote

It was actually my plan to run a 3" downpipe from the beginning. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 How are you planning to run a 3" DP? The biggest DP you can run with an auto tranny and without cutting up the firewall is 2.5". There is a thread about it on TGPforums. Quote

Garrett Powered Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 turbo gtu had a 3 inch downpipe. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 turbo gtu had a 3 inch downpipe. Isn't that in a J-body though? Flybynite proved that it won't work on a 3.1 Turbo/Auto w-body. Quote
Garrett Powered Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 he had it on a tgp. http://www.tercelreference.com/tercel_info/turbo_exhaust_theory/turbo_exhaust_theory.html here, read this article. obviously you guys missed it a few pages back it was posted. there is no way going from 2.5 DP to 3 " exhaust is going to hurt your exhaust flow. He must have cut up his firewall to fit it on there.. True, it won't hurt flow, but it is kinda a waste, when you could just go straight 2.5" all the way back. The exhaust won't have very good velocity if you go from 2.5 to 3" at the DP. Quote

Addicted To Boost Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 did you read the article????? go back and read the article again. this time read it very carefully. No I didn't read it. I was trying to point out that I haven't seen a TGP with a 3" downpipe without modifying the firewall. Quote
Garrett Powered Posted October 20, 2008 Report Posted October 20, 2008 Oh, I thought you were trying to argue that it would be pointless to upgrade to 3" when it is necessary for anything above 250 horse. which is not all that hard to achieve with a tgp. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Theres more than enough room for a 3" dp on these cars. Mines 2.5" and theres ALOT of room. and this is a pretty good deal considering what i paid/did for my exhaust Quote
