Jonpro03 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Are there any other w-body'ers who are running a carputer? I need some help big time. My Carputer: Celeron 433mhz 256Mb pc100 7Gb 5400rpm Windows XP Embedded Media Engine (Software) BR3 Interface My problem is that when I built XPE I didn't know what components to select for Media Engine. It requires database access so I have to add Microsofts ActiveX Data Objects and MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) but I can't find them as installable components. How do I add these components to my Component Database so I can have them in my next build of XPE? Quote

Im using that with NO issues on Media Engine. Buy a HP E-pc C10 or equivilent off ebay. I got mine for $41 shipped. 1ghz will help a lot, especially for GPS and PCM scanning software. I couldnt even image Media Engine running well at all on such a slow processor. I know 300mhz is the minimum requirement Media Engine from my understanding only really works under XP (not embedded) and Win2K Quote
BXX Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Other than installing XP and not XPE, you should just need to download/update them straight from Microsoft Quote
Jonpro03 Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 433 is plenty when your aren't running a shell program in the background. (eg Windows Explorer) Ram is more important on an embedded system as far as speed goes. Understand that the ONLY thing running on the computer is the windows kernel and the MediaEngine shell. Thats IT! My XPE install is only 178Mb. Right now my boot time is 8 sec from POST to media engine using XPE. On windows xp pro, which is seen here boot time was 57 seconds! If anybody else runs into the same problem I had using xpe and media engine, I found the answer. When building your image, add a component called CDO, which IIRC stands for Community Data Objects. When checking dependencies, Target Designer will automatically resolve and install Jet 2.0, MDAC, and ADO. Quote
