ABS idiot light

The Anti-Lock light on my '94 Lumina lights up every time that I drive over 5 mph, at the same time the light it sounds like a rely kicks on and makes some sort of noise for a brief second. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it. Im trying to sell the car and want to be able to tell people that the car has working ABS.

Thank you in advance.

well to properly diagnose it you will need to either take it to a dealer or someone who has a tech I/II scan tool. it sounds like you have a failed wheel speed sensor.

in lieu of proper scantool devices, you could try ohm testing all 4 speed sensors and if one gives a different reading it would probably be bad.

I hooked up my TECH II and found out that it is the left rear speed sensor. I went to Murry's and holly SH!T that thing is expensive! Does anyone know where I can pick a new one up for a better price?

NO!

just because it says it is bad.... doesn't mean it is necessarily the wheel speed sensor.

check the sensor to body harness piece. that is most likely the source of the problem.

You have a TECH II scan tool and you didn't think to use it first rather than go online and ask? :willynilly:

It was late when I decided to post. I would rather sit in my nice and toasty warm house and type on my computer than go outside in snow to get into my freezing cold car and plug in my Tech II, take a stroll around the neighborhood. Plus you guys are smarter than the Tech II.

I checked the plug and it looked good, other than the green clip that I broke trying to get it out. There was some dirt inside the clips so I blew them out and put a bit of di-electric grease on it. I have not taken the time to test the wires yet.

My Z does the same thing. I plugged 'er into the Tech II and it came up with a code 11 I think. Something about short to power/ ground. I know I could figure it out and fix it, but haven't gotten around to doing that yet since the ABS on these earlier cars suck anyways.

the harness that goes from the underbody to the bearing is most likely at fault. It is secured to the trailing arm also. so check where the brackets mount the harness to the trailing arm

might just need to make sure there arent any exposed wires, and just have to put a new plug on it instead of replacing the entire wheel bearing.

Sell me your tech II and give it to a person who is worthy of owning one.
