94LuminaZ34
I was trying to check my 1994 z34 lumina 3.4l for codes but I cant get the service engine soon light to flash? I have a small gm jumper scanner for checking codes and abs but it is really a paperclip in a fancy case. When that didnt work I tried a real paperclip still noting then I hooked up my volt meter to the A and B terminals on the 12 pin connecter and no voltage? The light will stay lit but wont flash with the terminals jumper and the ignition on, if I remove the paperclip and start the car the light goes off just like it should. Any one have this problem? Is this car OBD1.5? Is there anyway to check for codes right off the computer?
ManicMechanic
They are OBD 1.5! I hope you didn't fry the computer or something...
supreme_style21
I thought the 94 Lumina was OBD1.. All the other '94 models got the 1.5 except that Lumina I thought?
ManicMechanic
The 3.1 was OBD 1...3.4 changed over to OBD 1.5.
supreme_style21
The 3.1 was OBD 1...3.4 changed over to OBD 1.5. Ok, I wasn't sure on that one.
rockfangd
only on the lumina though i believe. My 94 cutlass 3100 has the obd2 interface
94LuminaZ34
But mine has a 12 pin connector so wouldnt that make it OBD1? If it was 1.5 wouldnt it have a 16 pin? I looked again and there are only three wires going to it the top two on the right and one on the bottom right.
Crazy K
again. you have a 3.4 lumina which is obd 1.5. ALL obd 1.5 W bodies have the 12 prong plug. no computer frying will have occurred, as there is only a wire in one of the two slots. best thing to do. A) tell us exactly the situation(s) that occur to cause the light to light, when, speed, all the time, acceleration, deaccelerating... etc etc etc. find someonw with an OBD1.5 compatible computer scanner. 94LuminaZ34
The light doesnt come on I just wanted to make sure that there were no stored codes. Here is a picture of my connector I just went and checked and I have wires at terminals A B and M
rockfangd
you will need a scantool like a tech 1, tech 2, or equivelant to be able to pull codes for that year and model
rockfangd
being you have the 3.4 engine with the 94 model year that procedure shown will not work
94LuminaZ34
So even though I have the A and B wires I need a scanner to check it for codes? Is there any over the counter scanner that will work?
Andrew
sometimes you can get lucky and a parts store will have the right one and scan your car for you. but that is a rare occasion. OBD 1.5 is really a pain in the butt.
94LuminaZ34
OK I bought a scanner and thought I would let anyone that has a car like mine know that a actron CP9150 will connect and read codes and view data from these half breed cars. I got mine off of ebay for about $
