4T60 Tranny Pan Magnet?

The Burning Rom

Recommended Posts

I finally changed the tranny fluid on my 90 LE, since it did hit 122k last week. The fluid stunk like a mofo when I drained it. The strange thing is, when I pulled the pan off there was no magnet on it...anywhere. I checked the pan full of fluid with my hand (not a fun thing ), and it wasn't in there either. Did the 90s even have that magnet stuck on the pan? I wasn't sure, so I went and pulled a magnet out of a wrecked 4T60e I have. I was just curious if the old one maybe got lost somewhere in my transmission...or maybe the fluid was changed before....or if it just isn't supposed to have one. Anyone know? :D

I think all of GM's automatic trannies have a magnet. Sheeeeeit, back when I worked at Mr.Lube doing tranny flushes and tranny fluid changes I never came across a vehicle that didn't have a magnet! Just throw on any decent magnet in your tranny pan. That's what I'd do.

the magnet is just a little thin pad, is that what you are referring to?

Yup..that's what I'm referring to. My transmission didn't have one in when I pulled the pan off. I don't know where it went. Good thing I had that dead tranny there for parts.
