Oil Pressure / Coolant temp Sensor ?s

I've got a couple questions on a couple of sensors for my '92 LQ1.

First, I busted the sensor on the left side of the front head while pulling the heads. This is the temp sensor that sends info to the gauge right? I'm trying to figure out which sensor to order from Rockauto, but any of the one wire sensors should be fine, right?

Second, I believe my car has an oil pressure switch instead of a true pressure sensor, as the gauge never moves from about two thirds of the way up the scale. I'd like to make the gauge fully functional, and all I need to do that is replace the sender right? If so, what part should I be looking for as a replacement?

For the oil pressure sensor, I think Ken knows a good amount about them.

I replaced the temp sensor, which for my old lumina was for the cluster. I replaced it with on I bought from a parts store. It was the wrong one and the only place I could find it was the dealer.

Rock Auto should show you pictures.

I don't know all the applications for the pressure sender off the top of my head, but 1988 Pontiac Fiero 2.5L uses it, so you could ask for one of those from the auto parts store. Open the box and make sure its longer than your switch unit; the switch one is pretty short compared to the gauge sender.

I love getting inducted into an answer. I'll have to look specifically at the an LQ1 for an answer.... but I'm not ready to walk outside yet....

Well, when you are ready to go look at one I'd appreciate your help.

I was about to be all excited 'cause I've got a new sender for my '87 Fiero GT waiting to go on, and I thought it might be the same one. Then I looked at the Fiero store... oh well... Anyways, so you're saying that the '88 Fiero sending unit is the same one as used on the LQ1?

Took me a second to figure out what you were asking... I was thinking the oil pressure sender, not temp sender

It was definately on the head for sure, as I removed it while the head was off the car. It was on the the left side of the front head. In other words, it was on the side of the head facing the drivers side of the car, and it was above the crossover and transmission case.

ok.

this is the brass sensor with one single green wire with a single black clip about 4 to 6 inches up the wire hooking it to the main engine harness? Hiding really well wasn't it.

That is the temperature sensor for the gauges.

Yeah basically you did, and thank you to you as well. I had thought Ken was going to look at the oil pressure sender, and he wound up looking at the coolant temp sender.

oh!

i knew this answer as well.

short = switch = idiot light

long = sender = gauge.
