Redfox340 Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Problems? On a faithful pushrod? Bummer... Little or no = 2.8L / 3.1L MPFI Medium = 3100 / 3400 SFI, Turbocharged 3.1L, or 3.4L DOHC Moderate = 3800 Series II / 3800 SC Series II Heavy = anything bigger than a heafty V6 powertrain - Erik Quote
Devilsdawg Posted August 17, 2003 Author Report Posted August 17, 2003 was thinkin more on the 3.4 dohc --wirein is more of the prob an computer hook up Quote
Devilsdawg Posted August 17, 2003 Author Report Posted August 17, 2003 will the wirein harness hook up to motor with out addin stuff an mounts :?: Quote
Redfox340 Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 You'll need all of the following: * donor motor * donor wiring harness (if not a MPFI) * donor ECM * donor tranny (highly recommended) * donor engine / tranny mounts (dogbones, etc.) - Erik Quote
patgizz Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 a newer 3x00 should basically be a bolt in/plug in if you swap all the sensors off of your existing engine. Quote
Robby1870 Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 If you do the 3400, I would say the tranny from it is almost a must Robby Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I dont think a 3.5l shortstar can fit in the 1st gen W's Quote
dbtk2 Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I dont think a 3.5l shortstar can fit in the 1st gen W's It can be done. If people can put 4.6 Liter Northstars and 350 SB chevys in Fiero's, then a 3.5l northstar can be put in a Gen 1 W-Body. Quote
Devilsdawg Posted August 18, 2003 Author Report Posted August 18, 2003 thanks -but i got thinkin of cost an i'll go with rebuild the 2.8(new rods/pistons)everything else has been replaced(crank/cam/lifters/bearings). 8) Quote
brian89gp Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 It can be done. If people can put 4.6 Liter Northstars and 350 SB chevys in Fiero's, then a 3.5l northstar can be put in a Gen 1 W-Body. No it can't. The fiero engine bay is cavernous compared to the first gen w-body. I measured it once and the 3.5L was 1/2" narrower then the first gen firewall to radiator. Remember the N* family are 90* DOHC engines, which means short and wide. The 3.4 is a 60* so its tall and narrow(er). Quote
91GranSport Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I agree. I think it was Shawn or someone else who mentioned that the 3.5L Shortstar won't fit because it's wide (transversally mounted). One cylinder bank would hit the firewall. I dont think a 3.5l shortstar can fit in the 1st gen W's Quote
91GranSport Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 That's what I thought. The 3.5L Shortstar is apparently a very wide engine, and even wider than the 3.4L Twin Cam from what I understand. Fieros seem to be so versatile you can drop practically any motor into it. It can be done. If people can put 4.6 Liter Northstars and 350 SB chevys in Fiero's, then a 3.5l northstar can be put in a Gen 1 W-Body. No it can't. patgizz Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 i'd love to drop a 350 in a gen1 W, but those prototypes i have articles on used special front accessory mounts and drive stuff that isnt production on anything. Quote
