kevinz
I have a quick theoretical question for you guys. With all the talk of timing belt replacement and failures, I was wondering if anyone out there has ever figured out a way to retrofit a timing chain on it instead. I have thought about it a bit and can imagine it being done and how it would be done, but I wanted some input from you all.
Series8217
Not really possible. You'd have to seal the whole front cover area, add oil drainback, and oil squirters/sloshers so the chain is lubricated. You'd have to make an all new tensioner, idlers, sprockets... The "talk of timing belt replacement and failures" is just talk. The procedure is not that hard, and they fail when they're not properly maintained. So replace the belt every 60,000 miles along with the tensioner and all the idlers, and don't worry about it.

White93z34
True. And honestly the 3.4 despite its flack is one of the more forgiving engines when it comes to timing belt failure. I don't think every 60k to give it some general maintenance is too much to ask. heck my last belt went about 85,000 miles before the tensioner failed and took the timing with it. and even then it was not that bad a job to change it.
