webxfx Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Hello all, I'm still new here and just bought a 96 GP GT, it came from a dealer so wasn't able to find out the last time it was replaced. To me, the timing belt looks great - but I don't know what it should look like when NEW - if I was to post some good pictures would you guys be able to tell me what you think. Quote
Night Fury Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I should think so! If they are good pictures... Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Ya it they are decent pictures we should have no problem telling you about it. Quote
webxfx Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 Cool - I fly home this weekend so I'll do that Quote
webxfx Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 One thing I can add - is there where some fibers under the cover when I took it off, but the belt did look fine to me... is it normal to see some fibers Quote
White93z34 Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 yeah they do that as they age. but, yeah. post it up. I'd show you a picture of what one IS NOT supposed to look like but i cannot find it right now Quote

GP1138 Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 That's what it is NOT supposed to look like. Quote

slick Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 I'd say that belt is in pretty nice shape! Quote
Night Fury Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 Looks rather new, if anything! Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 Ya looks good. Although I can't see the teeth. Quote
webxfx Posted November 10, 2008 Author Report Posted November 10, 2008 cool - thanks for everyones input, so I'm guessing the few hairs inside the cover are normal? on that post by CS1138 - is that belt only about 1/4" thick? is that what happenes? Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Yes a few hairs is normal. What happened to CS1138 is excessive wear from not changing it. I bet his belt was original, and I think his car has around 90k. Quote
GP1138 Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 John, is that a desk lamp you where using?! Yes. Clipped onto the hood strut or the catch it worked very nicely. Quote
