Hello all, I'm still new here and just bought a 96 GP GT, it came from a dealer so wasn't able to find out the last time it was replaced.

To me, the timing belt looks great - but I don't know what it should look like when NEW - if I was to post some good pictures would you guys be able to tell me what you think.

Ya it they are decent pictures we should have no problem telling you about it.

One thing I can add - is there where some fibers under the cover when I took it off, but the belt did look fine to me... is it normal to see some fibers

yeah they do that as they age.

but, yeah. post it up.

I'd show you a picture of what one IS NOT supposed to look like but i cannot find it right now :(

cool - thanks for everyones input, so I'm guessing the few hairs inside the cover are normal?

on that post by CS1138 - is that belt only about 1/4" thick? is that what happenes?

Posted

Yes a few hairs is normal.

What happened to CS1138 is excessive wear from not changing it. I bet his belt was original, and I think his car has around 90k.

John, is that a desk lamp you where using?!

Yes. Clipped onto the hood strut or the catch it worked very nicely.
