Red95GP
First off, hi everyone. Just joined like a week ago and ive been snooping the forums for a bit. I already found some things that I needed to do to my car but it still wont get rid of this stupid rough idle. It sounds like its got a huge cam in it. I replaced the spark plugs and wires, and I just got done cleaning the EGR valve. It had some carbon buitl up on it so i hit it with some carb/throttle body cleaner. Upon initial start up(which took more than a few seconds to start) it idle'd smooth but after about 2min of idling it start to sound like a camm'd motor again. So cleaning the egr didnt do much, and neither did new plugs and wires. I just bought the car recently(95 Grand Prix 2dr SE,3100) and since I bought it it had a slight misfire and its been getting worse. So bad that like twice at a light I push down on the accelerator and it barely moves and the rpms dont go up. that onbly lasts a few seconds then it goes. Another thing, when the engine is rev'd up a bit it sounds like a hissing noise towards the rear-passenger side of the motor, not sure what that could be. Any advice on what else I could do/check to try and correct my bad idle.
SigEpCutlass
Hi welcome to the site. Try doing an idle relearn. Here's the link to the procedure. http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php?topic=31176.
Night Fury
If you hear a hissing, Suspect a vacuum leak.
Red95GP
just tried that and idle seems unafected. Still has a rough idle. Im not sure if I did it right though. I pulled 2 fuses that were marked ECM IGN and ECM BATT. I popped those out for about 20sec with the car off and then put them back in and it started normaly and I put it in drive right away and followed the procedure. I found a 90* rubber elbow coming out of the firewall on the passenger side and it seems like it had a hose connectedd to it but it was chopped off. The previous owner said it had a rebuilt motor so possibly they forgot to attach that vacuum line. but where does it connect to on the engine? I saw this diagram on autozone.com and the one that seems like it goes to the same spot is the one coming from the evap canister and going to the fuel tank. I dont see any canister type thing on my car though. Anyone have some pics of what it is?
Night Fury
It is really obvious once you see it... It is like a huge pop can or something. Has lines coming out of the top of it.
Red95GP
the only thing that looks like a pop can under my hood is under the air box next to the battery and it has some metal lines running to what i think the a/c compressor. Night Fury
It should be like by the passenger side fender...
Red95GP
Thats what I figured but I dont see it. Is it in plain view. Im gonna look at other GP engine bay pics. Also, im not sure if it was cleaning out the IAC or the EGR but my car feels ALOT quicker now. Before it wouldnt realy downshift but on my way home from work a bit ago I was messing with it and it realy felt alot better. It would down shift and just take OFF! I highly recomend cleaning you egr and iac, very nice improvements.
