GPX
I was having the occasional "no-start" issue with my car some time ago. On the good advice from the forum, I figured out how to get new keys made and did so. Since this spring I've had no issues until this week when she would not start for about 8 hours on Tuesday! Then yesterday she did it again, but started an hour later. I'm thinking it's time to bypass the security system altogether. What say? GPX
and the status of the security light? I think it's turning off as usual. If it does it again, I'll check, and then I'll drive it off a cliff! j/k--I will never part with this car.
GPX
I bypassed mine last year. $2. http://www.p71interceptor.com/thirdgen/alarminfo/vatsinfo.html I had the 681 ohm key. Sometimes the key cylinders just go bad. This made me wonder about something. My car had a remote start system installed before I got it. It doesn't work (don't know why) but all the stuff is still in there (antennae, box, wires). I've never wanted to mess with it, but maybe it's time to do a "remotectomy" on it. If I end up putting the bypass resistor in, where does it go?
Timm
There should be two very small wires going up into the steering column. I think they're in a orange cover, with a white wire. There's a connector if you follow the wires AWAY from the column. Ill see if I can get u a picture tomorrow.

Or maybe it was the remote starter stuff that was causing the problem! It wouldn't start again Monday, so after all these thoughts, I decided to have a look at the remote box and wiring and low and behold there was an unattached connector. Reconnected it and voila! She starts! It's been working fine since, but here are the questions still lingering: How come getting new keys fixed the problem for 6 months? I don't see how that connector was ever attached to the black box as the wire and clip were snagged in the e-brake mechanism and I had to engage the brake and fish the wires out of it just to be able to reconnect. I'm hoping that the problem is fixed so I can stop pondering the situation. I realized that my problem probably wasn't the VATS after all as my Security light never flashed at me when it wouldn't start. Anyway, thanks again for all your input--it certainly helped!
