98 lumina transmission issue?

Hey guys I got a new issue. My '98 lumina with 63,000 miles has a problem every time when i accelerate. When i get out on the highway and I accelerate from 45 to 50 it feels like the car stutters badly. It was as if the car cant decide whether to go into the next gear once i get to 50mph. I thought it was only in that speed, but when i got it up to 80mph and then back down to 65, and speed back up very lightly it started the shuddering again. I have ran a scan tool and there is no codes what so ever on the car. The car got a routine trans fluid flush back at 33,000 miles. (the kind that you just drop the pan, clean pan, and add new fluid when put back on.)

I hope my trans is not getting sick, that would suck. :willynilly:

What do you yall think?

A buddy of mine thought it might be the torque converter, but I highly doubt it.

Is your tranny a 4T60-E or 4T65-E?? Because on a 65-E, that sounds like a failing PC solenoid. On a 60-E, it's more likely a TCC solenoid (this could be true of a 65-E too).............no PC solenoid on 60-E's though.

Those two would be my guess's.

oops, im sorry i should have mentioned this I have 3100 sfi. I am assuming that i have the 4t60e? I would take it, it would be the one that would not be for the 3800.

Let me ask you this, if it was the solenoid, and ok its failing, then what happens if it completely dies? I guess no more shifting?

No more shifting= No more driving?

You could start with the basics, another tranny flush and a filter change. I had a '91 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 with 196K that was jumping completely out of gear at stop signs and lights. Got the tranny flushed and the filter changed, and didn't have a problem after that. Haha,I didn't even have a problem when I accidentally knocked it into reverse at 30mph. It sort of went "clunk" and stalled. I coasted into my parking spot thinking I had just blown the transmission. Tried it out, and didn't seem to have a problem. In fact, I swear up and down that it even shifted better after that, but I think it was just my imagination.

Selling that car was the single dumbest thing I have ever done.

yea I got a tranny guy thats swears about doing a tranny flush every 30,000 miles. I figure im pretty much due for one anyway. I think what I will do is have it flushed again, and let him know whats going on. I know he has a computer and a tranny scanner to at least pin point whats going on.

I just hate that im getting these issues with the transmission at 63,000. I mean i figured i should see something happen at around 80 to 100,000 miles.

who knows

Well if it was the torque converter, how would I be able to tell? I tell you its annoying as hell when its studdering as you pass 45mph going to 50mph while your in overdrive. I swear it happends more often in over drive than in drive. Its very rare it studders in drive. I get so pissed than when it does it i just slam the pedal and make it work twice as hard and try to get it to studder again as i decrease back down to 45. Everyone around me on the highway looks at me like i have road rage.
