cutsupreme Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 my alignment is out bad as hell, the toe is out on the left side. the car tripped over a curb with the previous owner, and it it pulls to the left. i'm just wondering if its easy enough to bring the toe in, and i need to know more specifically on how to adjust the tie rod length. i plan on taking the car in in a couple weeks to have the whole unit professionally looked over, i just need it good enough for now. AL Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 have it up on something so you can work under it... like ramps or something, but put a piece of cardboard on the ramps so your wheels can turn... Leave your car running and level your steering wheel... Now see how much your wheels are turned... When you get underneath, look at your tie rods, you will see a nut on there that you have to loosen... There will also be a hexagonal part of the tie rod that you use to adjust it toe out or in. If you decided your wheels need more toe in (front of wheel closer to car) then turn the hexagonal part with an adjustable wrench or proper size wrench, make sure that nut doesnt tighten itself back up... Its tough doing an alignment without an alignment machine... I would just have it aligned... Any college with an automotive program can align your car for free. I know because I am at one of those colleges. Quote
cutsupreme Posted October 30, 2008 Author Report Posted October 30, 2008 thanks, thats pretty much how i thought they worked. i'm just basically trying to straighten it as best i can for now. im taking it in to have the ball joints, tie rod ends, and new struts put in, on my next payday. they will align it with a computerized machine there.
