Low Coolant Light?

On the highway. Low coolant light comes on despite the fact that the temp is normal. Goes off when I am not on the highway. Replaced the thermostat last winter and had the engine coolant (dexcool) flushed and replaced.

What gives? Another dead thermostat or is low coolant sensor fubar'd?

Need input.

Given the propensity of these engines to develop internal coolant leaks, it would be extremely ill-advised to disable the light altogether.

Lower the coolant level, remove the sensor, clean it -- it should be good. Don't operate without it working -- sooner or later...

You prolly have an air pocket and need to rebleed the system... With the water pump flowing more at the higher constant RPMs, you are prolly a tab bit low..

My warning lamp has been cycling on and off for a few weeks with a proper coolant level and just last night when i was going through my trunk i found a temp sensor i took off my old radiator when i swapped in a wrecker rad a few years back. (typical cracked plastic end cap failure there)

Anyway i unclipped the metal tabs and pulled the screwy one, but had a hell of a time getting the replacement on. It's a tight space and even with the metal retainer clip in the 'unlocked' position i had to push with my palm with all my might to get them past the raised plastic tabs on the rad itself before i could lock it in. The big fat Olds digital dash low coolant lamp no longer flashes in my face. Good to know i can just clean it when the this one goes.

I recommend having a small clean rag by you to plug the sensor hole when you pull it out to prevent coolant loss.

When you rev the engine the coolant lowers as it gets sucked into the system, and as you decelerate it flushes back into the reservoir. So yeah i would say there may be air in the system
