dodgethis
I was wondering if it would be simple bolt on, such with the dog bones and everything considered to drop a new 3500 block in the lumina. I have seen many lumina from '96 - 2001 having at the most a 3800 in them. I have just a 3100 sfi in mine and its a '98. What im basically asking is is a 3500 block drop in as same difficulty as say putting a 3800 or a 3400. What about trans? would i just use a 4t60e like i would if were dropping a 3800 or 3400 etc? J
my buddy put one in his dad's Baretta with little issue. You'd have to check the mounts to be sure though
dodgethis
I will take a look at the motor mounts to be sure, I hope this nice 3500 is not problematic with the LIM Gaskets leaking. I would to be cured of that for once. Hey smooth was the performace worth it? I imagine i would feel a difference between my 3100.
Night Fury
My mom has a 3500. I like it. She has put 103,000 miles on it in like 2 years.
daytonboi
I'd like to know about a 3500 drop as well...although I'd prolly just do my 3.8 swap a 3500 might be nice
J
my brothers 3500 just blew a head gasket at 26,000 miles~!
Z34guy
check mymonte.com I think a few members have done it. 3500, 3400 and 3100 use the same block if I remember correctly. You could probably get away with keeping your engine and doing a top swap. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
carkhz316
My mom has a 07 G6 GT with 3500 and the manu-matic/ ratchet shift and that thing books ass. It'll probably smoke my monte (3800)
Euro
my brothers 3500 just blew a head gasket at 26,000 miles~! damn!
RareGMFan
It doesn't matter what you say, Buck. It is clear from SMOOTH's single experience with the 3500 that that motor is JUNK!!!!
IRONDOG442
Yeah one engine fails prematurely and they are all automatically junk, get the fuck outta here!!
BIGBULS
3500 blocks lack some of the boses and stuff that the 3400's have, so it isn't a STRAIGHT swap, but they ARE very doable. Gotta get a different crank trigger, deal with some AC stuff and a few other goodies.......... I DO know that an otherwise stock 3500 with a 2.84 FDR 3T40 in a 92 Beretta GT went low 15's with almost no tuning. Said car runs damn close to 14 flat at 98ish mph now with headers and other assorted bolt-ons along with a 3.73 FDR/shift kitted/LSD'ed 3T40 and an ok tune. Stock long-block I believe though. Oh........as an option: 3400 block with 3500 top end........and a cam..........and a convertor..........and..........fuck it........build the shit out of it
dodgethis
Well i guess i'll be switching to a 3500 if my 3100 ever decides to blow up. I have to admit I like how the top plenum is put on there plus having a plasitc cover to gon top of it. I can't say i have seen one for the 3100.
