Power-Glide
My buddy wants to swap his 1990 LHO for an 1993 LQ1 he located in the junkyard (has 231,000 km's) and was in a Z34 Lumina. Could you guys please post a link to a swap guide of what is involved or give me some idea of what I got myself into helping him? As well with 231,000km's what should I have him buy for the motor? I was thinking belt, pulleys, rebuild the hydraulic tensioner, alternator, plugs, wires etc. but should he do a re-build as well? I would really appreciate any help from people who have done this before because we only have a 3 day weekend to get it in and runnin'

Power-Glide
Meh, this adds an interesting twist - my buddy ASS-U-ME'd all he would need was the motor(which he never heard run A) and a computer  . Well, can't blame him for trying I guess and he didn't pay for anything yet, luckily... Where I live we have auto "recyclers" not wreckers that 'will not' under any circumstances sell you or part out a car and be flexible on prices, as the man told me "son, we gotta set price on every part, you will be charged accordingly" blah blah blah. So entertain me, would the L67 swap also require a new K member? I just happen to have one laying around 8)
Brian P
I had a spare K member but I found wal member to be a much better deal

91GranSport
Stupid question but: 1. Which engine is the LHO? 2. WHich engine is the LQ1? I'm guessing the LQ1 must be the 3.4L Twin Cam. Would it be safe to assume the LHO is the 2.8 MPFI?
Redfox340
1. Which engine is the LHO?2. WHich engine is the LQ1? 1.) 3.1 Liter MPFI V6 2.) 3.4 Liter DOHC V6 I LOVE RPO codes... I get off on them. - Erik

LT1, L82, LM1, LS6, L98, LT5, LHO, LQ1, LG5 for instance. in my case i have an LHO in my CS with 211,000 miles (runs great), and i have an LG5 engine with 111,000 miles on my garage floor waiting to go in. funny thing is, is that i bought it without hearing it run! i don't take my own advice i guess - hopefully this LG5 i have has good compression in all cylinders and is otherwise healthy.....if not i guess i'll just have to rebuild it with lower compression pistons, a bigger T3 turbo and custom calibration, bigger FMIC, full 3" exhuast, bigger injectors, manual boost controller, blah blah blah. joshua
Brian P
why dont you just take it apart now? It isnt rocket science, especially when it's out of the car

Robby1870
yeah, Malibuolds, Im with Brian, take it apart now, and make sure its good. Oh, and if you're low on compression in some cylinders, that means you can run more boost, right?? Robby
Power-Glide
Well, we started the L67 swap - hella easier than the LQ1 swap to me... I also gotta huge break on the price of a really low mile L67 & Tranny for myself, his was $1300cdn. for motor and trans, mine was $800 and only had 23,000kms on it! Also I should point out I only did the wrenching, he wanted to wire it up so I left him to his own devices. I think I'll see how far he is in a month or so ~Gawd this is 2 projects on the go now for me

91GranSport
Erik, thanks for the heads up dude. The only shit I'm familiar with is L36 and L67. Too bad I don't have either one, I have the 3800 TPI V-6. I have no fucking clue what that'd be though. I know I have the FE3 suspension though! Too bad I need new tires and shocks... 1. fleetwoodguy79
Wow you think the L67 swap is gonna be a hella easier than the LQ1?! I think not! Least the wiring could take a month in and of itself. I just finished the LQ1 swap along with a TOTAL performance rebuild of the motor and I must say, it wasn't TOO bad... Just my opinion... I'm not too fond of the L67.
