Crazy K
YEAH. I need to prepare a transmission for a swap into the 1995 cutlass supreme. the car is a 1995 CS with a hybrid large bore top end swapped 3100. During the intensive process (the rack and frame will also be replaced) I will be installing the larger better newer style rear exhaust manifolds. I could also port the exhaust ports, but don't think I will(anyone have a good thought on that?). I have talked to a member who will be able to tune a 96-02 PCM too, so I will be doing a OBDII PCM swap at the same time. Currently the engine produces more than ample power for the transmission it is linked to... meaning I'd like to take some advantage of that to increase efficiency though a change in gear ratio or stall speed. This is no racecar, but currently it loves pulling more than it needs at 3000 rpm and basically the current stall speed TC is like driving with a high stall converter. Since she needs to be a good daily driver and be efficient... for cheap... I am trying to work out a solution for my best options. idea: What I basically will have will be a large bore 3100, the same as used in a 2001 GP. but also, I have noticed how nice the 95 ciera cruises so effortlessly with it's 4t60e transmission, although it is a lighter car. .. so research indicates: 2001 GP 3100 SFI (large bore intake) FDR: 3.05 TC stall: 2095RPM 1995/94 CS 3.4 DOHC FDR: 3.43 TC stall: 2050RPM 1995 CS 3100 SFI (small bore intake) FDR: 3.33 TC stall: 2095RPM 1995 Ciera 3100 SFI (small bore intake) FDR: 2.97 TC stall: 1630RPM 1995 Regal 3800 FDR: 3.06 TC stall: 1897RPM 1995 C/H body 3800 FDR: 2.84 TC stall: 1420RPM AVAILIBLE RATIOS: Chain Ratio 33/37 35/35 37/33 Final Drive Overall Drive Ratio 2.84 3.18 2.84 2.53 3.06 3.43 3.06 2.73 3.33 3.73 3.33 2.97 AVAILABLE TORQUE CONVERTERS: * A -- 2795 rpm * K -- 2760 rpm * B -- 2560 rpm * C -- 2385 rpm * Z -- 2375 rpm * D -- 2095 rpm * J -- 2060 rpm * L -- 1895 rpm * E -- 1865 rpm * G -- 1630 rpm * M -- 1525 rpm * H -- 1515 rpm * Y -- 1420 rpm since tuning should be able to adapt shifting to whatever shift point will be appropriate for my application... and since I have most of the parts, I think a good solution is to take the my already available 3.43 FDR 94/95 3.4 DOHC transmission and utilize a 2.84 differential from a C/H body to convert the FDR to 3.18, which will still be a bit better ratio than the 02 GP w large bore 3100. Next step... would be a lower stall converter to maximize efficiency sooner... 1630 might be too low, so maybe a 1865ish converter? coupled with tuning to make it flawless. thoughts?
