A/C compressor shot?

Well, I think my ac compressor may have finally given up the goat today... In the past it hasn't been engaging, and so I could turn the car off and back on and that would usually fix it.. Today though, it just will not engage for anything... The pulley part of it is turning, but the part outside the belt is not turning when the compressor is turned on like it used to. I was wondering if it was sounding more like a compressor problem, or an HVAC control problem...

As long as the compressor is oiled well it shouldn't hurt - but the defrost won't work properly without the compressor running anyway - A/C dries the moisture from the outside air

So I need to recharge the ac before my defrost will work? Also, how do I check/oil the compressor?

yeah. a non working compressor hurts nothing. except defrost and a/c.

you probably don't need any oil, just a re-charge of R134a.

Alright, I guess I'll pick up one of those recharge kits next time I go to the parts store (provided they still have them), because my defrost has to work... Is it very hard to do?
