MikeP2389
So soon im going to do a pan drop and filter change on the 02 ss and nobody around here sells any gm dexroniii. Is it ok to juss throw some dexron 6 in there? cuz i hear it should be compatible and is better. thanks.
Crazy K
WHAT? i think Detron VI can be compatible... but I think it is fully synthetic, and supposedly not that good. Check again. i use the super tech multipurpose fluid from wally-world. *made by Warren Petroleum products!*
5speedz34
Dexron VI is fully compatible in older transmissions I have it in the GP no issues after 400 miles
rockfangd
i always use the valvoling merc3 HM and i have never had a problem. I get it from advanced auto
MikeP2389
so its ok to mix in with the leftover Dexron III in the tranny then? i could prolly get some castrol dexronIII equivalent from advance should i juss use that? rockfangd
I dont see why that would be an issue but really there isnt too much of a difference. Both are good
MikeP2389
i think i might juss go with the castrol or valvoline then.
5speedz34
Valvoline Dexron VI. Just let it drain for a good amount of time if you can.
mcbfarm
Don't mix 'em if you can avoid it. Either new and changed ever 15000 is better than either otherwise. Follow the filling instructions carefully -- easy to overfill (not good -- blows seals) and a pain to get out. Take the old and put it in containers, and when you add the new start with 1 quart less than came out, and add a pint at a time, checking the fluid each time. MikeP2389
well ive been reading around and gm recommends VI to be used in trannys that use the older versions of dexron. so it will be ok to mix em. im just prolly gonna get the gm dexron VI from the dealer and use that with the pan drop. jerry455
have used the dexron vi since it became available. it is improved in every way over dexron III. same as dexronIII is better than dexron II. have used it in 700r4, 4t65e and 4t60. MikeP2389
yea thats what ill go with then. is 7quarts enough for a pan drop?
1990lumina
Should be way more than enough. Remember your torque converter holds half the fluid so you'll only get about half or less out of the tranny with a pan drop.
Andrew
yea thats what ill go with then. is 7quarts enough for a pan drop? should be about 6.

tdvs
Just did mine the other day - '95 3.4 - 7 qts. Tom
BIGBULS
7qts should be more than enough. Spec is only 6qts IIRC for a 60-E, although most seem to take 6 and a half or so to actually get them to the full line warmed up.......... And yes, Dex VI is FULLY compatible with Dex III..........we use it ALL the time and no issues yet (on hundreds of cars).
MikeP2389
nice juss picked up 7qts of dex vi from the chevy dealer this afternoon.
