BXX
Ok, short story. Venom was doing his 3400 top swap and a rocker arm stud broke.. Something tells me the intakes were done before and a previous mechanic overtorqued it and stretched it. Only way to break them. Im leaving tonight to head down to his place to take a look and/or work on it and work on it tomorrow. Does a 01 3400 head have pressed in or threaded in rocker studs??? I dont know which year or 3x00 that they changed it..
Brian P
The only thing he needs to be careful of is the switch to M6 threads in 2004+ (might have been '05) 3400's Otherwise there never was pressed-in studs. He could use a rocker stud off any '96-03 3x00

Unless we're talking about 2 different things...
19Cutlass94
2004 they went to the smaller (i believe) rocker arm studs. anything older than that will work as mentioned. There was never pressed on. The older ones werent a fulcrum roller, but a ball roller but still have a stud.
BXX
Ok, I must be thinking about 2.8L/3.1L having pressed in studs... Shit, only 96 and up 3x00s??? His is a 95 (the old heads) and I didnt ask him if he had a late 95 with roller rockers. So if his 95 has roller rockers, then the studs will be the same, if not, then I need a roller rocker stud... Nonetheless, I will be leaving here in a bit to head his way and check out whats up and go from there.. Dont know if we will be able to work on it tonight (might get too dark) But I dont need much light except if I am gonna have to drill and easy out the summabitch
GP1138
'96+ got roller rockers... I would wager that if his is a late model '95 that it has stamped rockers, but notches for roller rockers. That was the deal with my '95.5 GP SE sedan with the 3100. When we did the intake swap, we stupidly removed the heads before I noticed that they were pre-notched for rollers even though they came with stamped rockers. 19Cutlass94
the 96 rockers will be the same. they changed them in 2004 where they went to a smaller stud for the rocker. they will work. And the 2.8/3.1 studs are not press in, they are screwed in. But some 95 heads got the fulcrum rollers and they will work.
Brian P
the only things pressed in are the valve guides. Maybe you're thinking of that?
BXX
the only things pressed in are the valve guides. Maybe you're thinking of that? Prolly, I duuno what I was thinking, ive been too exhausted to think Went and took a look and tried to get the broken stud out. I ended up breaking a easyout.. Damn think maybe have crossthreaded or something, but it ain comin out easy. Ended up deciding in throwing all the 3100 stuff back on tomorrow just to get it back running as he needs it, its his DD.. Bad thing is right now, im at my parents and I got a call from teh GF who isnt feeling very well now.. She has PCOS and shes having the same pains as the other month when a cyist on her overies burst.. Kinda torn between getting home to make sure teh GF is all right and possibly to the hostipal, or staying down to help a friend.. I know rob can easily get the 3100 stuff put back on as its straight forward... Sooo, tonight has been full of FAIL.. Poor rob just wanted his CS to not have a fried headgasket and to get some more power.. Looks like just fixing what was broke is whats gonna happen.. I did however really prove what failed. Cylinder number 5 I do believe.
