Jonathan_C
So after locating a low mileage LQ1 engine to replace the engine in my 93 Z34, and a week of doing the swap, the Z34 was purring. That's the good news. Here's the bad. Now this might sound mean, but I visited a friends house and gave a rather large and heavy man a ride to the store. My Z34 sits level, but when this man got in the back of my poor Lumina it sagged, the rear wheel well probably a good 2-3 inches under the top of the rear tire. When I fired the car up it had developed a miss. Poor throttle response, really really rough under 3000 rpm, basically felt like it was down a cylinder, but at higher rpms it smoothed out, although it no longer felt as strong. Is it possible the weight could have bent the exhaust gasket and basically clogged my exhaust. The car also smells like a car with a bad cat, but my car currently isn't sporting one. I checked the plug wires, all the harnesses, everything is good and this happened instantly.

Hairdo12
Unless this guy weighed 3000 pounds and was able to bend your frame, I am confident he didnt bend your exhaust. Bad smelling exhaust: first thing I would check is you're getting spark from all six plugs. Probably dumb luck that poor shlep was in your car when it happened because now he has the finger pointing at him.
Regal_GS_1989
There is no way that he could have caused that. Hell, i've seen old w's riding around with combinations of broken rear leaf, blown rear struts, and the ass end cambered out the wazoo and the exhaust was still fully intact. mcbfarm
I agree, no way it's the big guy. But what was the condition of the earlier engine? If it had anything like poor compression, you might have a clogged catalyst. If you'd literally gone a few minutes, it may not have heated up enough to notice. Have someone with an IR temperature checker check the pipe before and after the catalyst. Hot on the engine side and hardly warm on the tailpipe side is a clogged cat. It's possible to heat them up and burn the crap out, but I heard that's almost impossible on the vehicle. Anyway a new engine deserves some new parts around it...
