Brian P Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 plz tell me you got the engine harness? Quote
Crazy K Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Mr_Efficiency is his name BINGO! Ken - that car does have the HO Q4 (VIN A)...And possibly one of the LAST HO Q4 CSs made, I do not have ANY other A VINs that late. The Achieva is also an HO 4 car, but doubtful if it's a W41 car. the calais vin was corroded and difficult to read. but is was a engine code A car. what letter did W41 cars get for the engine? what is different between an SC and an SCX? would the 92/93 SC have a better HO Q4 than the 1990? should I grab the SC tranmission? plz tell me you got the engine harness? YES!!!! but there is one hack, someone cut the coil cover plug off. I will solder and fix with a piece from another harness. I also have the Q4 engine harness from a 1991 GP Q4, which I will convert into an extra 5 speed harness soon enough. I mixed and matched alot of parts, so the only think I need to solve is the lack of a clutch pedal, asuming I can get away with using the wrong model cables and shift lever... though I have an extra GP shifter that I will have to compare... p.s. I searched and located a paint marker that matched the one they used to mark parts. They %^&@#$ me, I'm gonna %^&@ them. Otherwise... if anyone finds a Q4 W-body irregardless of transmission in a yard. CONTACT ME! need: dogbone mounts with their bridged supports, the puck protecting the right frame horn, and the intake tubing... parts that are Q4 W-body specific. Quote

The W41 should be a "A" code as well. The Q4 Achieva would have the 3.94 FDR. The SCXs had special ground effects, suspension, CS like 5 spoke wheels.. Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 the only difference between the SC & SCX is the SCX got the W41 engine. 93's Q4 got different heads Quote
ManicMechanic Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Okay, the SCX got different wheels, suspension and the W41... Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 16" on SC 14" on SCX and a close ratio 5 sp on the SCX Quote
90v65speed Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 The SCX also had a baffled gas tank. They were basically ready to autocross. Quote
5speedz34 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Ken sucks that the car got crushed!!! Quote
Crazy K Posted October 19, 2008 Author Report Posted October 19, 2008 a 5 speed q4 would be awsome Quote

mfewtrail Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 I found a Quad 4 article on HotRod's website. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/oldsmobile_quad_4_combining_parts/index.html Quote
Crazy K Posted October 26, 2008 Author Report Posted October 26, 2008 well... there is a 92 HO Q4 at the yard... are there better parts I should grab from that car instead of using the 90 engine parts? thanks for the article, though I found that one already.... Any better more technical ones? quD 4 STILL EQUALS TEH GARBAGES Let me know what you think once I walk you. k? Quote
cutsupreme Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/ar40032.htm a good article on the quad4. hope this helps! Quote
cutsupreme Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 the only difference between the HO and LO Q4's are: HO has 10:1 compression pistons, LO has 9:5:1 intake and exhaust manifolds EPROM cams if the HO you picked up has "chocolate milk", the head gasket is obviously toast, and the head could very well be cracked. i wouldn't risk putting it all together to have a rod or main bearing go. you said you found a LO Q4? if you have the $$ to burn, yank that one too, if it seems to be fine. theres no such thing as too many parts when your doing a swap. use the bottom end of the LO, whether you switch the pistons is up to you, depending on the condition of them. i would recommend getting the head pressure tested, and machined if need be. basically use the bottom end of the LO or the whole thing if it has a 086 head. use the HO cams, manifolds, TB, and EPROM. if one of them has the double roller timing set, use that one. i feel like im forgetting stuff, but its all in the article above.
