per0781
My car started getting warmer while I was driving today. The gause was reading right under 3/4 when usually its right around 1/2. When I got home I popped the hood and noticed my overflow tank is FULL. I replaced the thermostat and water pump 2 years ago. Something must be preventing the anti freeze from flowing. Any suggestions? Thanx
Slade901
It could be your radiator and engine block coolant passages have developed lots of gunks and blocking the coolant flow. The radiator is usually suseptible to gunks build up. The radiator horizontal tubes are no thicker than 1/8 inches and 1/2 inches wide. Use a radiator flush. Part of the instruction to use the radiator flush is after draining the all the coolant and then fill it with water and run the engine for 10 minutes and drain the water. Pour the radiator flush and with some water and drive the car for 3-4 hours. Drain the radiator flush and water and then fill it with water again and run the engine for 10 minutes and drain the water. Finally, pour a mixture of 70/30 coolant/water. What I can think of why the coolant reservoir is full because now the coolant could have a low boiling point and so it boils quickly and if the passages are a little blocked/restricted then they stay longer in the radiator/engine block and could not get dissipate the heat quickly. If the cap is bad then it won't let the system hold pressure and your overflow tank will fill up.
Robby1870
Try the cheap things first, radiator cap and T-stat. I bet its one of those. Robby

per0781
well 20 minutes after this, the colant tank went back down to the normal level. I then turned the car on and ran it and the temperature gauge was normal, and the primary fan turned on when the gauge was 2 bars over half. Anyways, it still got towed to the shop and plus my charge light is back on again, and I replaced my alternator yesterday I'm ready to junk my car
