BXX
I decided to go E-check (emissions) my CS today, since I really need to get all my registration and license transferred to Medina county from Richland county (non-echeck county) As most of you know, I have done EXTENSIVE tuning to my PCM (from a 97 Lumina) including disabling most of the emissions system (EGR,EVAP). Well, I was kinda pissed that the place isnt very easy to find, then of course I have to pull in the bay, and hand the car to a complete fuckin stranger I have a pet peeve with letting other people drive or even get in the driver seat of my car. Well, I go inside the little hallway that you can watch what they were doing. This dumb motherfucker pulls forward over the little dyno wheels, and slam!! from my rear end. Fucker hit the gas and slammed it at like 10 miles and hour!!! It was like a tire sized 1 foot deep crater!!! Asshole... I can tell it fucked with him too. I hope he fucked his neck/back up, because he looked like he was in pain afterwards... Thats what he deserves. Well, when he connected to the diag port, their computer couldnt connect to mine and enter into the drive cycle mode  Well no shit. He came and asked me if I had done much with the PCM, I just shrugged my shoulder and told him minor spark timing  Soo, he had to do an exhaust probe test... As he picks up speed on the dyno rollers, my exhaust was so loud, it was causing everything to rattle in the place!! And old man getting his Town Car tested who was standing beside me, looked over, and said "That exhaust sounds damn nice!!" Well, and then they did the evap pressure test... I thought for sure it might fail since the 97 PCM isnt compatible with the 96 EVAP system. Luckily, the purge solenoid appears to stay shut and keep pressure up.. And, if you read this far, I passed!!! Holy hell!!! Well, barely, I was pretty much right at the limits 168K all original sensors with a bad catalytic convertor and a commanded 12.8AFR

ManicMechanic
Yeah, but Montgomery County got smart and realized that e-testing is a fucking joke.
oldscsc
You should dyno the guy's vehicle. Do 30 in R and slam it in 1. The thing that gets me is the he probably knows what he's doing and either 1) was jealous of your car or 2) bored of doing his job so decided to mix it up a little bit
ManicMechanic
THe last idiot that e-tested my car had never seen a 3.4 DOHC before...He hooked up one lead to a VACUUM line instead of a spark plug wire...DUMBASS...So my car failed and he said it was fucked up... I knew his boss pretty well (I flirt with her every time I go in) and I am not sure he is working there any more... Worse than that, my car shows up as having failed the test on a carfax report... tdvs
Best experience I had was back when I had my T Bird Super Coupe. Idiot just pulled the front tires on the rollers. I should have just looked the other way, but went out and told him it was rear wheel drive. Didn't he get down on his hands and knees and look?? What a knuckle head. Where do they get these slugs?? GP1138
I remember when I bought the Mexi-Lumina with no reverse and was afraid they'd fail me because of that.

Brian P
there shouldn't be any difference in operation of the evap system between 96-97. Nothing that the computer can detect at least!!!

90Cutlass3.1
Glad they don`t test here in Okla. Hell we don`t even have to have the vehicle inspected anymore! I know I would be pissed if someone treated my car like that. Hope the dude got a nasty whiplash!!!
BXX
there shouldn't be any difference in operation of the evap system between 96-97. Nothing that the computer can detect at least!!! Wrong, take a 96 3x00, shove a 97 3x00 PCM in it, and it will be throwing EVAP codes all day long... I even swapped in my 96 PCM a few times to verify Only reason I E-checked it is because I have been living in Brunswick for over a year now (Medina County) but I still have Richland County registration from Mansfield, including my license. Cops have been paying more and more attention to me and following me, so I need to get my crap up to date and showing my proper living address... Soo, I need to pass E-check to get my registration. Another reason Im glad Ohio doesn't have emissions test 1loudcutty is in Ohio... Yup its just some counties E-test and some dont. I wonder if the county Canton is in has E-check? I might be moving there this spring. Stark County has no E-Check, so your good there Rob...

No, only seven northern counties do. All I can say is that its fucking retarded, but needless to say, I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo suprised my CS passed

What do you think I'm running, and HAVE been running for close to 40,000 miles now? It's a '96 harness on a '97 PCM. I initially ran a '96 PCM, and none of the times did I receive problems, or codes, or ANYTHING. I'm not the pioneer in this either so go double check that you don't have an existing problem that the '96 PCM seemed to overlook.

I dont have an existing problem, even had our master tech at work diag everything. Everything came back ok... 96 PCM, no EVAP faults or codes, nothing. 97 PCM, turn the car on, turn it off, turn it back on, MIL comes on. Showed 3 EVAP codes each time. I swapped out the PCMs prolly about 4 or 5 times... I finally just said fuck it and changed all the EVAP codes and plenty others to 'no error reporting' problem solved
Brian P
don't know what to tell you there. Mine's fine and always has been. There's no wiring difference and as far as I know, no EVAP hardware change until 1998. What car did the '97 PCM originally come out of, and what car does the HPT think it is?
