raymire59
Has anyone ever used Mustang(Torque Thrust) wheels on a Gen 1 ? 17's or 18's ? Width - spacing ? Problems with fit or clearance ? Photos ? Thanks

raymire59
Thanks for the response- some good info. What I'm looking for specifically is info(experience) on what size will fit as far as offset without clearance issues(suspension, caliper). Looks like 17's x 8 or 9 might be a good fit, but they come with different offsets. Also, would longer studs or spacers be required. Thanks again. Cutlass350
They'll "fit". But, as I suggested in the other thread, you really want '05+" ("S197") Mustang rims on a W-body. They have a little more offset and therefore sit closer inwards. Still, they'll still be out more than a standard W-body rim. Again, I'll mention that there have been a few special offset Stang rims over the years. And, some aftermarket manufacturers make very close copies, but also offer then at non-OEM offsets for some styles. So, be careful about reading about how a "Stang rim" fits on a W-body. On my '86 Stang ("Fox body"), I have the upgraded 94-04 ("sn95") type suspension. Specifically - I have the 97 Cobra brakes and ABS. My '86 Stang is the last year of the "4-eyes" (four headlights) and with that older body style, I have a lot of wheel fitment issues. So, I'm very well versed in wheel fitment and Stangs and how the wheels and even the specific tires used (model, size, and year) can get into fitment issues. BTW: Here are some quick pics of a D178 (17 x8 Cobra rim) Stang Ford OEM rim with 245/45/17 tires on my Olds. Yea, I should have taken pics that showed the change in offset from stock. http://www.veryuseful.com/GM/images/OldsWithD178RimsPic1.jpg http://www.veryuseful.com/GM/images/OldsWithD178RimsPic2.jpg http://www.veryuseful.com/GM/images/OldsWithD178RimsPic3.jpg http://www.veryuseful.com/GM/images/OldsWithD178RimsPic4.jpg BTW: I already have the TA calipers for the 12" rotor and caliper upgrade. But, no time right now to do it.
