spiderw31
I'm currently in the process of replacing the oil pump drive seal while the heads are off my car, and I have a quick question. Where exactly does the seal seat on the drive? Does it go where it is now in the pic below, or does it replace the black ring just below it? It has been a long time since I did this job on my old 6000LE and I don't remember...
z34duck
take a pick and get the old black piece out and put the new rubber in the slot i usualy take a paper gaske from a old chevy v-8 and put it on the shaft also for a better seal
spiderw31
So that black ring is actually the old seal?

spiderw31
Cool thanks guys! I pulled the old seal out, and it cracked in half. No wonder it was leaking! I put the new seal in its place, and cut a gasket for the top out of rubberized cork gasket maker, and put a small bead ultra copper on both sides of it. Torqued it down, and it should be good to go now. Probably won't ever leak again!
