GPX
I've been driving around for a couple months throwing my O2 sensor code. I replaced it finally the other day. Then I threw a P0171 [system too lean (bank 1)]. So I cleared that. Then a day or so later, another P0171. I clear again. The next day I throw a P0101 [Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem] and clear that. I think since then I've thrown another P0101 and another P0171. Car is definitely running better since the O2 Sensor install. Is my MAF going bad now? Or what?
stevegasm
I would definitely start with the MAF sensor. Make sure it's not dirty and check the wire harness as well.

How does one go about properly cleaning the MAF sensor? I have some carb cleaner. Should I use that? And if so, where exactly do I use it? The inside screen/sensor part or the thing attached to the side or both?
ismellrealbad
they make MAF cleaner. buy that, spray, air dry. after that try new or used MAF
ron350
If these codes are for a 96 Cutlass the trouble shooting chart will be a little different from later models. My 96 W-body manual list codes P0171 Fuel trim system lean and code P0172 Fuel trim system rich with no bank 1 or 2 codes. The 96 service manual says look for loose wires and then look for vacuum leaks causing the lean condition.
1990lumina
On my Millenia the P0171 code ALWAYS meant vacuum leaks.
