GPdriver1986
I bought a GM oil pump drive shaft gasket and now I'm ready to replace the o-ring. I have a few questions? 1)What should be done if the whole shaft does not come out? 2)If the whole shaft comes out can it split into 2 pieces? 3)Should I remove the fuel lines? GnatGoSplat
1. You have to get it out, and it shouldn't be that difficult. Try a pry bar if it's stubborn. If the metal rod in the end of the shaft stays in the block, you can retrieve it with a magnet. 2. Yes, the metal rod can come out the end of the oil pump drive. It just slips in and out, so no biggie if it comes out. 3. I don't remember removing the fuel lines, but if you think it would give you more room, it wouldn't hurt to do it. GPdriver1986
Should I bother taking out the other half if it stays inside or can I just leave it?

GnatGoSplat
Should I bother taking out the other half if it stays inside or can I just leave it? If it doesn't lean over and you can push the oil pump drive in completely, then I wouldn't bother removing it. I don't remember if it has enough play in it to lean over or not (been too many years). Either way, it's easy, I'm sure you won't have a problem.
