90Cutlass3.1 Posted October 4, 2008 Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 Had the ICM tested 4 times and it tested good each time. Spliced the bare wires and that all looks good. From my wiring diagram I think it was the wires going to the CPS. Pulled the fuse to the ECM and did the idle relearn. Haven`t had a chance to take it our for a drive yet to see how it does. Friend of mine put his scanner on it and came up with a bad coolant temp sensor so gonna replace that. Can anyone give me some tips on where to find that, and how to go about replacing it? Engine is a 3.1 MPFI. Also gonna replace the trans filter and fluid, got a pretty bad trans fluid leak that seems to be coming from around the pan gasket. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 The coolant temp sensor is on the backside of the thermostat housing. Remove the old one and install the new one. Quote
90Cutlass3.1 Posted October 7, 2008 Author Report Posted October 7, 2008 The coolant temp sensor is on the backside of the thermostat housing. Remove the old one and install the new one. Thanks Nick,Prob never would have found it without your help. Replaced the CTS and spliced a new pigtail to it while I was there.. the previous owner had broken the plastic housing off the CTS that the plug plugs into and had the connecter held in place with a small piece of copper wire LOL....talk about your McGuyver fix ohhhh man....Got the ICM back on and the bare wire spliced and taped up good. I believe that it was the bare wires that were causing it to surge at highway speeds.Seems to be running tip top now. Thanks to all for the help and tips. Quote

Lumineer Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I thought MY 3.1 ran hard and strong (and it mostly does...for a 3.1), but an shop said they noticed my car was running a little rough and suggested some work on the air induction system. Quote

The green money pot is still hungry lololWell you said it would happen. Since I said it was running good *and still is* I had a deer jump into me the other day going to work. Not to bad though, nothing that a right fender, side marker light and a bit of work on the hood won`t fix. I`ll post a pic as soon as I can get one taken,Drove it to work the next day and on the way home the altenator decides to give it up! Quote
