bonneville 3800 into regal 3800

hey,

 

im doing a motor swap tomorow the motor is a 3800 from a bonne in to a regal there bolth series 2. some one told me the oil pan is different and also the harmonic balancer? is this true also are the engine mounts the same? any help would be great.

If they're both VIN K cars, they should be almost exactly the same.

im doing the swap for my uncal and he has the motor there just n/a motors the same as the one in our 02 gp gt

Well, I haven't looked at a Regal in awhile, but I was just looking at a 97 Bonne with the 3.8 and there was a big fat motor mount on the belt side of the engine that isn't there on my Monte (not a regal, i know, but still a W), soooooooo, I'm gonna say that yea, chances are motor mounts are different.

lol i plan on being done in 3 days and most of the work is just me think its do-able

Lots of shit is different...

 

- Alternator bracket incl alternator, coolant outlets, and belt tensioner is diff. youll need to grab that bracket and its components off a W 3800

- oil pan is different - again youll need a w oil pan

- rf dogbone bracket/icm bracket is different

- a/c compressor bracket may also be differnt but dont quote me on that

 

there may be more.... thats all i can remember

what are you doing with the motor that is in the regal? If your keeping it or its bad then just swap the parts you need to make it work without going hunting for them

the oil pan is NOT different. I've had both side by side. same thing.

 

the oil filter ADAPTER is different.

 

the rest of the stuff, you should be able to swap over from the old engine.
