tdvs Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Developed a serious left rear clunk over bumps yesterday. Checked previous " Clunking" post for ideas, but I think my problem is different, worse. Just went out to look, and immediately saw the left rear tire was layed in several inches at the top. That's not good What am I in for Tom Quote
Crazy K Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 to you mean the top was tilted in, or the tire was "turning" angled in? Quote
AL Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 I would say a broken strut or strut mount. Quote
tdvs Posted September 28, 2008 Author Report Posted September 28, 2008 I would say a broken strut or strut mount. Sorry all............Should have looked a little closer B4 crying the sky is falling Top of rear strut snapped off. Thanks for the quick responces tho, Tom Quote
rockfangd Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 ouch. I wish that was my problem though, at least i would be able to see it lol Quote
Pontiac6KSTEAWD Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Dont drive the car until thats fixed. And when you get it to the shop, make sure they lift the car with that wheel supported. Reason being, the rubber brake lines will take the spring tension, and break. If you plan on doing this your self, which can be done easily, break your lugs loose, jack up the rear wheel by placing a peice of wood across the rear control arms, and spring, right close to the tire. Then using a jack, lift it up just enuf to take the tire off. then you can use a second jack on the jack point to lift the car up as needed to get the new strut in and to replace the upper strut mount. Just make sure the spring tension never gets released off the other jack until the new strut and mount are in. Quote
Crazy K Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 I disagree with the above... the lateral link should have a limiter........ Quote
rockfangd Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 when i do them i just take off the wheel and place a jackstand between the hub and the 2 studs on the bottom just to keep the hub from moving forward. Quote
Pontiac6KSTEAWD Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I disagree with the above... the lateral link should have a limiter........ I would normally agree with you, except I have seen those limter peices rust, and then its a matter of trust. Better to be safer than sorrier (sp). Quote
slick Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 I agree with Brian, don't drive the car! Carpe Deez nuts! Quote
