jeremy Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 getting access to the two bolts that conect the DP to the ear exhaust manifold is a complete pita. I can get the socket on the nut, but that don't have any way to generate enough force to loosen the bolts due to lack of room down there. anyone have any tips/tricks on how to get into this area and generate enough force to loosen these bolts short of a pneumatic butterfly impact? thanks Quote
gpchris Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 jack it up and remove them from below with a ton of extensions? Quote
jeremy Posted September 27, 2008 Author Report Posted September 27, 2008 that is what i am thinking too....have to go at it from below Quote
birdman Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 definatly go from below, a breaker bar, a swivel and a few extensions work great to get it broken loose. Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Ya theres no way to get at it from the top. I can't believe you're even considering it. Quote
jeremy Posted September 27, 2008 Author Report Posted September 27, 2008 Ya theres no way to get at it from the top. I can't believe you're even considering it. you can get a ratchet on it without a problem from the top, it's two bolt so I am not sure why it would it would be so unphathomable as to why that would be a first attempt when I obviously don't have a lift at my house Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 I've just never seen anyone attempt to unbolt a downpipe from the top. I mean if you did unbolt it how did you plan on unbolting it at the cat or getting out from under the car? Quote
GOT2B GM Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 jackstands or ramps and have at it Quote

jeremy Posted September 27, 2008 Author Report Posted September 27, 2008 jackstands or ramps and have at it I tossed it up on ramps and I will try to give it a whirl again shortly Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 I wasn't trying to be an ass sorry if I came off like that. Quote
Brian P Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 put anti-sieze on the studs and don't overtorque it, and from here on out you can get it from the top (that's what I can do now) Quote

I will be sure to do that. I managed to get one of the bolts out as of now, I will attack the other on again tomorrow morning. Quote
gpchris Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 They were easy for me.. Although I have the ones with the springs on them.. Idk what kind you have. Quote
rockfangd Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 i tried to get mine out from the bottom before i had a air compressor and they would not budge. lol Quote
jeremy Posted September 28, 2008 Author Report Posted September 28, 2008 well, I got the dp off finally...couldn't get the damn O2 out though, so right now i am running without one until I can get it out of the factory downpipe....between removing the cat and the resonator it is a much different exhaust note...I really like it down low but when you get on it, it gets too raspy for my taste....but for an impromptu exhaust redo because of tearing it off pulling into a driveway I am alright with the turnout...and it did get me motivation to put the 3" DP in as well Quote
jeremy Posted September 28, 2008 Author Report Posted September 28, 2008 here is how it sounds now...a little too loud/raspy for my taste, but it is what it is for now... ..oh yeah, ignore the squeaky rear struts too.... Quote
Euro Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Damn that's just with a downpipe and PLOG? That sounds mean!!! and I rofl'ed at the rear struts. It sounded like someone stepped on a rubber ducky Quote
