Variable Gas Gauge?

Recommended Posts

I'm sick of everyone using the excuse of "I have no gas!" or "You have more gas than I do!".

I want to be able to control my gas gauge, while still being able to get it back to it's normal reading to see how much gas I actually have.

I was thinking a variable resistor knob?

Then I can finally say "I have no gas!!! :-("

(even if my tank is full! :-P)

This is all in a 1996 regal custom

3800sII

And also, I am clueless when it comes to the workings behind gauges...

just grow some stones and tell them you aren't going to be their taxi cab

possible, but not nearly as funny.

They do pay for gas,

I think I'm just running outta cheap and fun stuff to do to my car.

Not possible.

The fuel pump sending unit is a 0-90 ohm unit. 0 ohm is full from my understanding, and 90 ohm resistance to the gas gauge at the cluster would give an empty reading..

Just wondering, but anyone know what colour wires I should look for?

Lol, idk what got into me.

It should be the purple wire going into the cluster. Toggle switch that wire and you have a reading/no reading fuel gage. Cluster side purple wire doesn't need to be grounded for no reading, just open.

ummm the opposite. cutting the wire will peg the gauge full.

the wire color should be correct. I think I have the pinouts you must look at posted in the FAQ HUD thread, btw.

x2... geesh, I already stated 0 ohms (as in cut/open) is full and 90 ohms will display empty...

thank you for seconding what I already said Ken, now maybe some noobs will listen and do something right
