Timm Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I'm sick of everyone using the excuse of "I have no gas!" or "You have more gas than I do!". I want to be able to control my gas gauge, while still being able to get it back to it's normal reading to see how much gas I actually have. I was thinking a variable resistor knob? Then I can finally say "I have no gas!!! :-(" (even if my tank is full! :-P) This is all in a 1996 regal custom 3800sII And also, I am clueless when it comes to the workings behind gauges... Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 He wants to be able to tell people he doesn't have gas even though he does. So he doesn't have to drive places. Quote
Crazy K Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 you could ground out the fuel signal feed to do that. wire in a switch to grouned. Quote
Venom Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 LOL this is funny as hell. Sounds like you got some real losers for friends or something that want to bum rides from you. But Kens idea sounds the easiest. Quote

jeremy Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 just grow some stones and tell them you aren't going to be their taxi cab Quote
Timm Posted September 22, 2008 Author Report Posted September 22, 2008 just grow some stones and tell them you aren't going to be their taxi cab possible, but not nearly as funny. They do pay for gas, I think I'm just running outta cheap and fun stuff to do to my car. Quote

BXX Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 The fuel pump sending unit is a 0-90 ohm unit. 0 ohm is full from my understanding, and 90 ohm resistance to the gas gauge at the cluster would give an empty reading.. Quote

Just wondering, but anyone know what colour wires I should look for? just grow some stones and tell them you aren't going to be their taxi cab possible, but not nearly as funny. BXX Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 dude, just quit being a pussy and tell them you dont wanna drive anywhere... seems more logical than hacking into wiring that you dont know much about Quote
grandprixnyc Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Wouldn't it be easier to tell them you're not a chauffeur than to rewire and possibly mess up your car? Quote
Timm Posted September 22, 2008 Author Report Posted September 22, 2008 I've been thinking... It turns out I'm the bad person I want to go places, but with other peoples cars... Then they tell me to use my car. I could easily just take their keys though! Quote
Hairdo12 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 It should be the purple wire going into the cluster. Toggle switch that wire and you have a reading/no reading fuel gage. Cluster side purple wire doesn't need to be grounded for no reading, just open. Quote

I think I have the pinouts you must look at posted in the FAQ HUD thread, btw. Quote

ZoomZoomFan Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I just say I'm not driving and if they get all bitchy then I sit down and say "Well, guess we aren't going anywhere then." Quote
