Lumineer Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Note: I believe I may have posted a thread topic like this one in the past, but I no longer remember and I couldn't find it. So, I'm putting up a new one because I actually have plans to get a new muffler shortly, plus, my mom keeps bothering me about it. My muffler is rotting a bit (rusty with what looks to be holes developing) and I need suggestions on what a good muffler would be to replace my current stock one. I plan on running the new one with no catalytic converter (having it removed by AWEB next weekend, more than likely). I'm looking for a fairly quiet exhaust note, but with a little bass or rumble to it. I don't want anything obnoxious or very attention-grabbing. I just want something to clean up the puttering sound of the exhaust. I also want an exhaust muffler that allows for the best exhaust pressure (not too high, not too low). Someone once suggested Raptor mufflers before, saying they were rather cheap and satisfying. That reminds me, I don't want anything too pricey (I'm cheap and limited on budget anyway). Quote
oldscsc Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 No cat, 40 series Delta-flow It's what I want to do to mine, but I don't think it would sound as good on the LQ1 as the 3.1. Quote

That sounds VERY nice, I think. Will I get the same/similar effects with the 3.1 as opposed to the 3100? Quote

I'd give it a try, it's still the same platform, 3.1 or 3100. I haven't done it with the LQ1 because it's totally different, and usually gives off a nasty rasp. Quote

What does a 40 series Delta-flow go for? Also, is it easier to obtain via online sites or at an auto parts store? Quote
oldscsc Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 About $100 a piece, but if you're going to do a cat delete that should pay for your muffler. A cat should get you $100, which you can then buy the Flowmaster with. If I didn't have two mufflers I would have already done this. Personally I would rather buy one in the store, check them out in person, but if you like buying over the internet, have at it. Quote
BXX Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 2.8L/3.1L sound NOTHING like the 3x0o, just a little FYI Quote
Lumineer Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 2.8L/3.1L sound NOTHING like the 3x0o, just a little FYI So, what's YOUR thoughts on a 40 series Delta flow muffler on a 3.1? My friend has a 2nd gen lumina with a 3100, and hers doesn't sound THAT much different than mine. Quote

Maybe not at idle, but it will sound different. I think the 2.8L/3.1L engines just sound crude, they really need a resonator with the Flowmasters when the 3100 doesnt Quote

Miko K Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Magnaflow XL3 3" mufflers with silencers, about 50% louder without the silencers. Quote

These engines are tits for exhaust note. Don't go the side exit route. Looks cool and sounds good but it is way to loud inside. The flowmaster will sound amazing on the 3.1. do it. Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 A 40 Series is no more than $73. I bought mine off of Summit. And 3100's sound better than their predecessor. Quote
Lumineer Posted September 28, 2008 Author Report Posted September 28, 2008 Well, I bought a new car recently, so until I know for sure what is going to happen to the Lumina, I am going to put my plans for it on hold. Quote
LuminaPower92 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 did you keep the Lumina. I have clips of my exhaust if interested. Base with dual flowmaster 40 series. Quote
