Night Fury Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Not that it would matter on your car!! Quote
IRONDOG442 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I have a good rack and pinion for your GP Quote
Breakdown Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 my dad said he would the the rack. Burnouts.. are not much in this car. I dont wanna rip the tranny out. But if you had of, you wouldn't have to worry about this inspection now, would you? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Quote
Nick1234 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 yeah, up here in wisconsin, those are non existent. Quote
Addicted2bass Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Try going somewhere else. Ive never had a problem getting any of my cars inspected. Although it helps to know alot of mechnaics Quote
Night Fury Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Well once you have gone to one place, it's in the books. If he went to a more lenient place and it passed, the place would get fucked over. Quote
Addicted2bass Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Only if the first place ran it through the computer. Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 For the tires get and alignment and have the shop look over your front suspension. Most places around here do it for free and then tell you what you need on the premise that you will go through them for repairs. For the rack, drop the exhaust off the manifold and everything is right there and easy to get to. That's how the guys at the shop replaced mine. Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted September 22, 2008 Author Report Posted September 22, 2008 I have a good rack and pinion for your GP How much? Honestly interested. Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 I have a good rack and pinion for your GP How much? Honestly interested. Check and make sure its the right ratio first. EDIT:Checking rockauto it says for '97 all you need to worry about is if it has Magnasteer or not. If it was me I would pick up a Delco rack. Quote
EviLette Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Shoulda got a bit older of a GTP Anthony. Anything 95 or older IIRC in MO doesn't require emissions inspections, just safety. Sucks about your problems with your rack. Wasn't there a recall on them at some point for 97s? Quote
1990lumina Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Sounds like he failed the safety Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted September 22, 2008 Author Report Posted September 22, 2008 Yeah ill stick with the 97 lol It is so much of a nicer car then my 95 Grand prix's were. Heated seats insted of cold ones lol. Rides and the Sounds is much better. Looks somewhat better. Even though i have a soft spot for b4u Grand prix's. the 97's are a much solid car. emissions were a cake walk! Quote
mra32 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 No rear swaybar isnt much of a saftey issue. But how does one break both endlinks on a swaybar? Quote
slick Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 But how does one break both endlinks on a swaybar? Driving like an idiot. Quote
5speedz34 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Most of them break stock. This isn't the first time I've seen this. Quote
Brian P Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 change the front tires, replace the end links, clean up the rack of any oil leaks etc then get it re-inspected somewhere else. Quote

OR if you are cool like me, if i ever have to get the car inspected in MO, i go to "uncle Mark," at Midas Muffler, since my old man worked there for 25 years, and i slip him a 20, and he passes the car with flying colors!! Cat delete and all! Knowing people in the repair business is awesome. just plain awesome. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 No rear swaybar isnt much of a saftey issue. But how does one break both endlinks on a swaybar? Driving on rough, poorly maintained roads, low maintenance dirt roads. My neighbor broke his front swaybar and he drives his regal nice. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 But how does one break both endlinks on a swaybar? Buying a GM... Quote
Breakdown Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 But how does one break both endlinks on a swaybar? Buying a GM... I've also done damage to a anti-swaybar about 272,000km in, my questions is who needs state inspection to tell them that it needs to be fixed?!? I wouldn't. It was extremely extremely annoying. Quote
88red4cyl Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 emissions were a cake walk! You had to get it e-tested? I though that was only for the STL and KC metro areas??? The 99 has never had an e-test... Quote
mra32 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 but once one is broken, how do you break the other, there shouldnt be any load on it. I dunno. Its mystifying to say the least Quote
