kwk39018 Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Sway bar end links. You have to drop the subframe to get the power steering rack out, about a half day job. They want pass you for worn tires. Quote
Addicted to eaton Posted September 20, 2008 Author Report Posted September 20, 2008 there almost new... lol Plunty tread. Quote
slick Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Must be too many stupid burnouts. If your not going to do the rack yourself, expect to pay a damn good amount of money. End links are a cake job. Quote
slick Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 They'll nab you for wierd tread wear as well. Quote

Night Fury Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I showed up to my inspection (in the escort) with a blow-out, a crapload of rust, a rear swaybar that wasn't connected on the drivers side, and a parking brake that doesn't work.... Ten minutes later I was out of there with a freshly aired up tire and a inspection sticker!! Quote

Ten minutes later I was out of there with a freshly aired up tire and a inspection sticker!! Yep, here they don't care or look hardly at all. They walk around the vehicle once, looking for obvious defects. Then, they take the VIN number down. The last thing they do is look under the hood, but I don't think they have a clue what they're looking at. That's only for out of state inspections though. You can drive a truck that's been out to pasture for 20 years on the street with no inspection if it's got a Kansas title Quote
ManicMechanic Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Our inspections are pretty strict...But I know someone with a 240SX that you can literally see the front fender while driving directly behind it and has bald tires but yet it passed. Quote
GP1138 Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I love our lack of inspections in OH. Want another Cutlass, Anthony? It'd pass inspection, I think. Unless a bad driver window motor is a safety issue. Quote
jmoore4294 Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Failure to open the drivers side window is a big no no in north carolina. They say if you can't open the window for hand signals, then it's a safety issue and you won't pass. Quote
95 vert Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Mo. inspection covers alot of shit. Lights, horn, glass, fluid leaks(p/s, brake) and level, tires, brake pad thickness, mirrors, tie rods, ball joints, links, etc. The tires can look like shit but cannot show cord or be worn to the depth markers across three treads. Obviously you found a guy that thought he might make some extra cash on repairs. Most inspectors don't look that closely at p/s leaks. Quote
logikf1ve Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 NY is pretty strict for inspections too, but it really depends on who you know. Quote
1990lumina Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Fucking GM and their sway end links lol...EVERY GM used car that goes through my shop gets a pair of end links put on. Cobalts with 20k on them had play in the end links already lol Quote
carkhz316 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Nothing in MN. Pretty easy to drive with any condition exhaust or anything for that matter! Quote
Lumineer Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Wow, I'm so lucky to live where I do, right here in Lincoln, Nebraska. They don't do any inspections here, meaning that I can get away with a lot here. Quote

Breakdown Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Worn tires are a safety issue. That's what I find hilarious about where I live, you can fail an emissions test for having a locking gas cap that leaks a little air, but you can't fail for having a gas tank that has a massive hole in it, or tires that are worn right through to the tread. Will end links stop the tire wear problem? Tire wear is usual the cause of suspension problems. So replacing the tires is irrelevent if you don't fix the problem at the source, unless they just weren't balanced right on the way on. Quote
White93z34 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Get your front end aligned. Quote
gp13069 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 don't forget to look at springs, tie rod ends and ball joints while you doing the rack. & after the rack is r&r you need aligned anyways also get a 4 wheel alignment it worth it. also if you can replace the upper rear strut bolt with a adjustable one's it make's it much easier to set up the rear. there cheap at http://www.partsamerica.com Quote
1990lumina Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 The sway end links just provide the mounting point for the sway bar, does nothing for alignment. Quote
AWeb80 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I'm in Lincoln, Ne too.... I LOVE having no inspections. Quote
