Andrew
if it happened all randomly, i would think there is a sudden shortage of oil. replace your oil filter, when they fail they block off oil pretty well.

Do you have an oil pressure gauge?
Andrew
please, before you buy another motor, try fixing the simple stuff. and if you are looking for a simple swap, get another 3.1.

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? a knock on an engine when it's cold and first started might not be a shortage of oil. it could also mean that it's piston slap. 94slutlasssupreme
ok i must say this have your mechanic check for collapsed lifters and i only say that because im doing that now after just rebuilding the top end (my own dumb ass fault for not cleaning them in the first place) and it only took a week and a half for them to go..... oh and you might wanna check your oil pressure
