gpchris Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 No its not another game Im just putting my car back together and am not sure what these parts are. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The top part is a brake light switch... Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The top part is a brake light switch... Agreed. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The second one....you got me. Quote
meltboy1 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 uh that looks like the neutral safety switch by the clutch on the bottom.... Quote
Crazy K Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 correct on both. the clutch switch interupts the thick yellow wire from the ignition, between the the ignition and the column to underdash harness. and the brake switch.... damn that is a pain! Quote
gpchris Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 Did they change the brake switch in the newer ones? Quote
Crazy K Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Did they change the brake switch in the newer ones? yes. it is at least 1x1042557665856234346756978908767453675689008977643567680890978846 better. I upgraded it in one of my cars... it was VERY simple, but required a bit of donor wiring and plugs from a 93+ Gm donor. iirc, 4 of the wires could be repinned, but two had to be cut and spliced. gpchris Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 ok, just making sure. My 95 has the newer part so i dont have to worry about it. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 What's the difference in the brake switch, Ken? Got pics? I remember changing out the one in the '88 over a decade ago, and it sucked. I still remember being upside-down so long, I thought I was going to have an aneurism. Quote
Brian P Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 the newer brake switch is almost identical in looks and nature to the cruise control vacuum safety release plunger on the older w-bodies. It's a normally closed switch w/a pintle which rests on the brake pedal arm. Much simpler! Quote
