19Cutlass94
hey guys quick question, what are the signs of a slipping tranny? Like what does it do/feel like. Ive never had it happen to me so I really dont know. TIA
oldscsc
The engine will rev but the tranny won't be putting any power to the ground. It's as if you are driving a manual with your foot on the gas, and without moving that foot, you hit the clutch. Revs, no power.
Night Fury
It sucks and makes you want to cry. If your not paying attention, you won't feel it unless you are really giving it throttle. The original trans that was in my cutty lost all but first and second... so when it was in D, and you got to 2-3, it just shifted into 'neutral'. The engine revs. The current tranny... you have to give it quite a bit of gas just to go anywhere... then it finally 'catches'. When it slips higher in the rpm's, as in WOT, it will seem to stutter. Sometimes it may even rev a bit. It sucks. I hope you don't have to go through all this shit!
z34mightymachine
Is your tranny slipping in any specific gear like 1st or 2nd.
z34mightymachine
This is true. My tranny on my Z34 revs in second and then it finally goes. All my other gears are good except 2nd. I had my tranny looked at by a tranny guy that I know and we checked everything on the car and we could not find anything. I have changed some things but the problem was still there. I'm getting a used tranny for $250.

19Cutlass94
Well I held first gear once, and i went wot, from like a 10mph roll, the rpms jumped up, came back down, then went back up and shifted into second. it was wet out and i couldnt tell if they spun of the tranny was slipping. I mean I was deff moving the entire time. But I couldnt feel the tires spinning and didnt hear anything. I wasnt sure if it was slipping or spinning. Night Fury
It *sounds* like wheel spin but....
19Cutlass94
I also did hit the rev limiter cuz i could shift it that fast, so i duno if it got fuel cut off or not. I duno if it was just that one time or not, cuz i punched it from a stop, and just lit em up on dry pavement, but still i couldnt feel anything that time, and was like oh shit.. Night Fury
The wheels don't 'skip' on wet pavement like they do on dry... maybe I'm just filling your face with false hope?
19Cutlass94
I didnt know what a slipping tranny was like, and i wanted to make sure that mine wasnt slipping. cuz sometimes it feels like what was mentioned, like when i go wot from a roll. Night Fury
If it's slipping in first, you would KNOW it... It wouldn't happen as bad from a roll as it would from a dead stop... it just feels like your in neutral... Just like you still have the clutch in on a manual and have your foot on the gas... just like The engine will rev but the tranny won't be putting any power to the ground. It's as if you are driving a manual with your foot on the gas, and without moving that foot, you hit the clutch. Revs, no power.
oldscsc
Could be the tranny, but how much tread do your tires have? Seems elementary, I know, but if you have no tread it could be spinning them.
