EGR valve gasket part #

Anyone happen to know the GM part # for the triangular EGR valve gasket(the one that you'll find when you remove the three torx screws holding on the solenoids) for a 3.1 MPFI. I fully disassembled egr(that had loads of carbon buildup inside) only to find that parts stores do not have the triangular gasket available. Parts stores do carry the other two gaskets fwiw.

EDIT: GM does NOT have it! fu(kkkkkkk!

It's a digital EGR, I should have stated that in my first post. I don't think Fel-Pro even makes the one I'm looking for. I searched through a huge box of egr gaskets at a parts store earlier today and found nothing like it. I'm going to go to a GM dealer Monday and see if they have one or can at least order me one. I'll update this post with a picture tomorrow.

I think you guys are missing the "fully disassembled" part.  It's the gasket on the right in this picture, not the two on the left that are commonly available.

The gasket doesnt' look "bad" in that picture, but on the other side all the gasket material is gone(stuck to the plate where it sits)...the metal shell of the gasket is all that's left.

I looked for that gasket for 6 months, gave up! I even tried Wells, no luck. I just assumed this gasket would have been available from Fel-Pro. If you find one, let me know please. Thanks

Joel, did you check with any GM dealerships? Hopefully they have one or can order one for me tomorrow. If not, I guess I'm going to have to try red or copper rtv.

Oh yea, I tried several GM dealers. Most of them looked at me with a surprised look on their face when I showed them what I wanted. Glad I had a spare EGR valve! I thought about using some type of sealer, but just never got around to trying it. Good luck.

i will see if the old man has that gasket from his dealings with cars for the past 25 years, he seems to enjoy holding on to crap like that....i cant make any garauntees, we shall see...i will call him in a day or two.

yah, i didnt realize the one you wanted...i assumed it was the pic on the left, not the right, that is the one i got.

no promises...i just remember having a lot of those gaskets in his work box.

That is good news! Can you post a update after you get the gasket? I'll be going to have a few words with my parts guys.

Joel

Joel, I'll post tomorrow to confirm that I received the right gasket.

Well, bad news. Got the wrong gasket today. Turns out that GM does not have the gasket. The exploded diagram of the EGR points right to the plate where the gasket I need sits, BUT they only list the center gasket that is under the plate, not above it....as I've now found out. GM sells the solenoids along with the plate together, but no gasket that goes between the two...so you're shit out of luck like me if you just need a gasket. I'm going to grab an egr or two from the junkyard next time I'm there. In the meantime, I might try some red or copper rtv on the egr I have. It should hold up for a while. How long it will hold up is anyone's guess though as that egr gets pretty damn hot.

Well, I sure didn't want to hear that! And the bad part of all this is: the only way the EGR can be properly cleaned is to remove the pintels by seperating the base from the body. I've looked around a little for some gasket material similar to this one but no luck on that. I'm sure someone on this forum will solve this problem sooner or later. I'll pass any info on later if I find a solution.

Joel, I think this right here would work fine to cut a few of these gaskets out of. It's plenty big enough to make several of these gaskets out of. It's intended for exhaust manifolds, so it should hold up good enough.

It does look like it might work. I've never used any of this particular material before. If you try it, let me know how it does as far as cutting the correct openings. I'll buy part of it if you want to sell any.

Hate to rain on your parade(again!) but I've taken dozens of EGRs off cars in local scrapyards only to find them fifty times worse than the one I have. Most people don't touch the EGR valve for the life of their cars and it leads to some pretty carbon'd up ones.

I have a selection of about 100+ junkyard EGR's to pick from, so I should be able to find some that are "alright" in the lower mileage cars. There's always that Mr. Gasket exhaust gasket material as another option, so I'm not worried about it at all.

If you find any at the j/y here is a simple procedure to check them with.

Joel

I just emailed Well's to see if they carry that gasket since they showed it years ago on that counterpoint article. I included the picture that I took. Good info on checking the EGR in that article, you should PM one of the global moderators and get them to add that article to the FAQ section.
