dkorinko Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Hey guys, I know this is kind of a broad issue but i just thought I might have some luck and maybe someone has had the same problem. For about the last four days I go out to start my car and it starts just fine, it will run for about 20 seconds and then just dies completely. If you try driving it, it will do the same thing, you will only get a short distance before the motor just shuts off, at times it will restart but other times it wont restart at all .... Weird thing is.... tonight I came home and started it, it ran perfectly fine and i even drove it around the block with no issues???? Any clues??? Like I said I know it could be 1000 different things but I was just wondering if there were any common things I should be checking for... thanks guys..... Quote
Brian P Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 could be the security chip in the key starting to fail (Can't remember if the '97 GP got the Passkey II or III) Will the starter crank at all after it shuts off? Quote
xxREGALIZExx Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 CHECK YOUR IDLE AIR CONTROL ! i had the same problems...... Quote
rockfangd Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 I too had the same problem IAC was the culprit. The pintle was stuck at max Quote
dkorinko Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 Where is the IAC located??? if anyone has a pic of the general area that would be great... thanks for the help... Quote
dkorinko Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 And yes, it will still crank even after it shuts off.... just doesnt start but like i said if anyone has any pictures of where this sensor is... please post Quote
JBC2005 Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 x3 on the IAC. It bolts on to the TB with two screws. Once removed, it has a cone shaped tip mounted on a spring loaded shaft. The shaft should move easily in and out. If it doesn't, spray some carb cleaner on it and let it sit. Move it all the way in and bolt it back on the TB. Do an idle relearn. Quote
dkorinko Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 Thank you for the picture! I will check it out today and see whats going on with it.... Quote
