mfewtrail Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Anyone know off-hand what the part number for one of these would be(the gasket that goes on the water outlet/bypass pipe above the water pump on a 3.1 MPFI)? I've looked at the parts store websites online and have came up with nothing. I haven't purchased one in at least two years, but recall websites actually listing them back then. I'd like to have a part # before I try to purchase one from a parts store because the people working the counter will surely tell me that they don't have it...even if they do, because they're idiots! mfewtrail Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 At advanced: Mr. Gasket Water Outlet Gasket Part Number: 740 Jay, I found the one I was looking for. I remembered that I had a timing cover set from a 3.1 in the garage, so I got the bypass/coolant filler gasket # off of it. By the way, part # 740 prompts me to select my year model of Volvo. Fel-Pro part # 35571 - Description list it as a thermostat gasket, but you can plainly tell it's the coolant filler/bypass gasket. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Dammit...I had it on here once...lol damned search Quote
mfewtrail Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 Dammit...I had it on here once...lol damned search Thanks for the Mr. Gasket # as well though. Maybe someone will search from now on and find this post. I searched the board earlier, but came up empty handed. I didn't spend but 2-3 minutes searching though... Quote
J Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 they couldn't find it for me when i had it leak so i had to but the gasket material and make my own, it's held up for about 5.5 years now! Quote
w-bodys_are_the_best Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Go to the GM dealer and get the GM replacement part, I did on my Z24, and found out that only the redesigned GM replacement has a metal O-ring in the center. He said that most people that replace them over torque them and they fail right away, the metal ring prevents this, and make it last alot longer. He said it should last alot longer than the original.
