swift13 Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Hey i was just wondering has any body taken the transverse leaf spring and replaced it with the independent rear suspension?? looking to do this to my 95 vert and just wanted to see if it can be done, is it worth it, and how hard might it be. If there is already a topic on this just send me that way. THANKS in advance Quote
swift13 Posted September 4, 2008 Author Report Posted September 4, 2008 i think i seen what you were talking about but isnt that for lowering?? i was wondering if like the 96 monte carlos rear susp. can be put into my 95 vert. but if the coil overs work i might swing that way depending on what is easier. Andrew Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 i think i seen what you were talking about but isnt that for lowering?? it was first designed for that, but you can adjust them. i hear that at their tallest settings, they are close to stock height. i was wondering if like the 96 monte carlos rear susp. can be put into my 95 vert. no. Venom Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php?topic=51716.0 lots of good info there on coil overs. Quote

jman093 Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Hey i was just wondering has any body taken the transverse leaf spring and replaced it with the independent rear suspension?? The monoleaf rear is an independent rear suspension. Corvettes have used monoleafs front and rear since 1984. If it's good enough to get a C6 Z06 to pull over 1 g in the corners, it's good enough for a w-body. You have to be carefull using coilovers. Many of us, me included have found that many coilovers for w-body rears are very rough riding. If you don't want to try coilovers, there are replacement fiberglass monoleaf springs that can give different ride heights, stiffness, etc. Someone can tell you who that company is, the search is down right now. It all depends on what you want. I like the adjustability of coilovers so I'm sticking with them, you have to choose what you want. Quote
swift13 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 i know the leaf is independent i guess i just wasnt thinking at the time. but i didnt know that corvettes had them, thats cool well its not so much not wanting the leaf but i had a 96 monte that rode great and i was looking to regain that ride comfort. so with my leaf bushings gone and the rear struts going i was just curios on what road to take in making it better. with all the info you have been giving me(great by the way) i think i might end up just replacing the leaf and struts and everything else in the rear Quote
Crazy K Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 on the 95... I stuck on KYB rear struts, new top mounts, the monoleaf puck pads, and added the optional auxiliary springs. Handles great! not too harsh. granted they need to be broken in a bit more. Quote
swift13 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 what are the optional aux springs???? Quote
Crazy K Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 what are the optional aux springs???? look under any base model car. If you get any, they MUST be from a 1994+ gen 2 car. Quote
swift13 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 where are thet at? by the leaf or in the wheel well and do you mean on the base cuttys only? sorry bout the 21 qs but this all stuff i did not know. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 With my coil overs I can actually jack my car up 1 inch higher than stock. If you want to avoid the "rough" ride that jman mentions, just get softer or progressive rate springs. The great thing about coil overs is that if the springs are too harsh for you, just sell them and buy different ones for $50-100. Myself I want slightly heavier springs, BUT, I'm going with a progressive rate, so it will handle better when I want it to, but will drive nice and smooth on a DD basis (not that my car will ever be DD'd again) Jamie Quote
swift13 Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 and where did you get your coil overs from? Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 and where did you get your coil overs from? Held, and I honestly couldn't tell you what I spent because I bought sooo much stuff all at once... and my receipts are still packed Jamie Quote
