IRONDOG442 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Why would you want to take that sepcifically off? Quote
mra32 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 probably for the 6 speed swap. you just want the part that goes into the hub? my guess is that you'd need custom length axles anyway, so i'd cut it to weld it to the other half of the axle that goes onto the new transmission. but to answer your question. i have no idea. with a large press would be a sure way to get it out Quote
95 vert Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 There's a snap ring on the axle just inside the bearing. It has two "legs" the stick out. Spread it with some snap ring pliers and pull the bearing off. Quote

95 vert Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 It's just barely in there. Possibly needlenose pliers would fit. Or maybe a flat blade screwdriver but thats kind of a pain in the ass. Not hard to get to, wipe the grease out and you'll see it just inside the bearing hub, about an eighth of an inch around the axle. Quote
gpchris Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 hmm theres still some grease but i dont see how anything can get in there... The "rod" is very loose, i can tell theres a snap ring on the other side but i cant see past the bearings... Quote
95 vert Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Not sure how to explain it any better. If it doesn't have the "legs" then you just take a hammer and tap on the bearing housing to "knock" the bearing off. You don't have to hit it very hard to knock it loose if it's the type without the "legs". Otherwise, that ring has to be spread. Quote
IRONDOG442 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 knocking it hard enough will make it spread regardless!!! Quote
95 vert Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 50 pound sledge might do it but the bearing won't be usable after that. Actually the snap ring with the "legs" has a 90 degree edge to it and that makes it a BITCH to remove with a hammer. Quote
gpchris Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 ahh I got it the snapring was right at the top - Thank you 95 vert! Im no engineer but a press would have probably destroyed it Quote
95 vert Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 You got it! Just spread that baby and pull it out!! Quote
