gpchris
Well Im using a manual trans but I dont have a manual mount.. Im wondering if the stock auto mount can permanently support the engine without any added supports?
5speedz34
Are you talking about the mount itself, or the actual metal brace?
gpchris
umm I want to know if the auto mount can support the engine while running and driving without the transmission bolted to the mount. I assume the transmission kept the mount sturdy..
5speedz34
Are you talking about the mount that is on the left side of the cradle, almost in the wheel well?
gpchris
this one
5speedz34
So you're not going to bolt the transmission to that? You just want to know if that will hold the engine?
gpchris
yeah if it wont bend without the trans strengthening it.
5speedz34
I can't say it will or it won't. My guess is it won't but if it does, its going to snap at the block, I think. I would look for a manual mount. You know there is another manual mount that goes across the bottom of the engine? I don't think the transmission strengthens the mount, I think it just keeps everything rocking as one "piece".
gpchris
hmm no theres no center mount. on the dohc theres a mount on each side.. Im having no luck finding a manual mount..
5speedz34
There is a metal piece that runs under the crank pulley. It bolts to the front (hydraulic) mount and the rear trans/engine mount.
gpchris
ahh yeah that was on the 5speeds. I consider it part of the rear mount.
5speedz34
I would really try to get one of those. Is the front mount specific to a auto or manual car?
