1992 3.1L V6 100k miles through California smog?

Burns no oil. Gets 35-40mpg on the highway if I drive at 55mph (as indicated by the DIS I wired in). New platinum plugs fairly recently, and gas cap makes a big vacuum sound when I remove it after I've run down the fuel.

Any reason to think that my car would have problems passing the State of California smog test?

Did the car actually fail or are you just wondering if it would? If everything is functioning as it should, I don't see why it would fail. Is the car a CA emmissions vehical or from another state? If from another state I would think it would be easier to pass.

The 2.8L and 3.1L had a hard enough time passing emission regulations when they were new, so when they are old, its even tougher.. Best bet, if it fails, have a good shop do an induction cleaning and a proper fuel system cleaning..

:confused?: My old 3.1MPFI did great on NYS emissions, WELL below the limits.

Some of the older cars had computer settings that made it run a little richer than it should have, especially '88-89. GM came out with updated computer chips that took care of that. Being that you have a '92 that shouldn't be a problem.

My 92 with the 3.1 failed numerous times up here in Ontario, turns out it was just the EGR. Got it tested again before I sold it, passed first try. That was a few months ago. I think as long as everything is functioning properly, you shouldn't have a problem.

my 92 lumina almost failed.... but passed. it was due to a "bad" cat. the guts were loose and enough bad exhaust passed around it almost fail but it didn't.

If you have any suspicion of issues fix those first. BTW... the EGR port would be worth cleaning out, since those are often choked with carbon... and a clogged port could fail a car even with a good EGR. check and clean... then go test!
