Doc
Dude thanks. But one question how low do you let the cradle down or is it till it stops on its own
White93z34
just support it with a jack and let it down slow, but yes it will reach a point where it will go down no more.

Doc
I need another idea... I broke 2 sockets trying to loosen a carriage bolt. Any other ideas? I'm afraid to go farther - I might break something more important.
LuminaPower92
What kind of sockets are you using? If no access to air, breaker bar and a good socket work wonders.
Doc
I was using a standard Craftsman socket with a 4" cheater bar.
LuminaPower92
Could try an impact socket, dont remember what size, Poss 15mm or 18mm? My 92-93 Luminas are 15mm, where as my 94 Cutty is 18mm for the subframe bolts.
Doc
I am worried about doing damage to the bolts and or threads also. The car has 166000 on it I don't think they have ever been out.
LuminaPower92
Put some PB Blaster or equivalent on there and let it soak for a bit. Should help out a great deal.

GutlessSupreme
I was using a standard Craftsman socket with a 4" cheater bar. you're going to want a 1/2" drive and 18" breaker bar.
Doc
But still doing it this way what kind of chance in doing damage to the carrige bolts and bolts holes.
gp90se
you can round that bolt even with the right size socket. I have used a total of 72" of extention bar with a 1/2" breaker bar and not been able to break loose 1 cradle bolt. soak it with pb blaster, put the socket on it and smash it with a hammer a few times, and if that doesn't work, you might need to torch it and replace the bushing
GOT2B GM
make sure you use a 6 point socket
EviLette
But still doing it this way what kind of chance in doing damage to the carrige bolts and bolts holes. LOL Bolts are cheap. Don't worry about the holes, if they are anything like they are in my GP (with 197k and just did ALL subframe bushings/bolts/etc.) the bolts themselves, and the plates they go into are pretty cheap. Your biggest fear pulling them out is going to be either stripping off the heads of the bolts, or cross-threading putting them back in. Doing the latter is a very, VERY bad idea. Mine had to be cut out to replace. Damn one-eyed mechanics. Good luck!
jake63
make sure you use a 6 point socket X2 Also, spray it and heat the nut even if it's just with propane torch, after heat spray again then have at it w/ 1/2" breaker bar and six point socket.
