Whats the vote about? I'm not the most experienced about such things, but sounds like one or more strut has gone bad.

Both above suggestions are good (also look at the sway bar), but don't forget to check the cradle bushings and powertrain mounts.

I'm not sure if your car has strut bearings, but I have heard bad strut bearings do that.

they can, that's what the 89s problem was, but I didn't mention it cuz I didn't know how the 99s were set up, but if you have them, check that too.

Do these cars have sway bar end links? I forget as I haven't been under my Lumina over a year - and when I was under last the last thing I cared to see was the suspension.

I've replaced say bar end links on just about every newer GM that comes into our shop - they all have excessive play and they make the whole front end sound like it's ready to fall out!

:werd: Also did you say it clunks when turning the wheel?

The front doesn't have end links, the bushings bolt straight onto the control arms & subframe.
