Bad Alternator! YAY!

So I knew my alternator waould go bad eventualy, it squeaks, squeals, chirps, and sounds like there's sand or something in it when spun by hand. I've been planning on it going bad ever since I bought the car.

Last night I was driving and noticing my headlights flickering, tonight the battery light came on. I turned off my headlights (I was pulling into my cousins subdivision, very well lit.) and the battery light went away... For about 5 seconds. Came back on, shut off parking lights, went away, came back. I only live 2.2 miles away from my cousins, but I just left my car parked out side of their house for the night.

I'm just going to use a junk yard alternator until I get a job to pay for a high output alternator. (I'm planning on some electronics once I get some money...) I've been waiting to go to the junk yard, now I have an awesome excuse!

Can anyone find some prices on a high output alternator? A normal alternator is 100 - 105 amps. I'm thinking anything<150 would be plenty. I plan on an 1000watt amp (not too obscene), and a carputer.

Or maybe 105amps would be plenty for just subs and a computer.

What do you think?

If you are going to look for an alternator, make sure it's for the L36 (3800 seriesII naturally asperated) without the side mounts.

I'm pretty sure the L36's with the front mounts have differen't alternators than the L36's with the side mounts. Or maybe they're the same. Idk, I'll find out tommorw @ the J/Y!

Does anyone have a rough estimate of how many amps a car could draw with just about everything on?

here's a list of everything

Blower Motor on High

Stock Stereo at 1/4 to 1/2 volume level

High Beam Head Lamps

All Parking Lamps

Brake Lamps

Engine (Coil Packs, PCM, etc.)

I had my OEM TGP alternator built up to 200 AMP at a local alternator shop for $64. It works great! These cars have so much electronics in them in the first place, so a high amp alt definitely helps!

So I was talking with my grandpa, and he volunteered to pay for the alternator until I got the money to pay him back for it. We took it to autozone, had it tested. Dead. So we got the lifetime warrantee, duralast gold 105 amp for $125.

Really quick and easy installation, and it's been running great, and my blinkers are normal speed, instead of literally 1 blink per second.

Looks really good too.

It does have a kinda "electrical whine".

Don't know if it still sounds weird, maybe it was just because it was the first time it was on a running engine since it was re-built.

I always thought that 105 wasnt enough for our cars anyhow

Always worked fine in my Lumina unless it's -40*C and I have the rear defrost and all the lights on with my bright fogs and the stereo up. Then I get some dimming at idle - but still it's not too bad.

Shitty rean alternator I have (Bosch) whines like crazy too...still works though.
