88Regal Limited
Anyways got the regal running again after sitting for a year. sort of. Anyways the battery in it was dead (this car EATS batteries if it sits for more than a week) so I put in the one from my 86 Monte SS. Well apparently that one went dead over the winter, almost no juice at all. Finally I jump started it, and it ran as shitty as it ever was. While holding the RPM's up to keep it running till it was warm, my buddy disconnected the jumper cables. The battery light JUST started coming on and the interior lights has a little flicker to them. I looked at my buddy and said "watch this". While holding the rpm's up, I turned on the headlights and the car just COMPLETELY died. Battery completely dead, and the motor just stopped. Now what I'm thinking.... Is it just the battery that's dead, or do I have a short somewhere? Still want it for a beater too.... put on mud tires and 5 offroad lights on the front and have some fun on the few PA gravel roads we have here! But honestly I'd like to get this thing moving a bit, I mean there's grass growing around it and I need to mow under it!

Andrew
if the alt is working correctly, the car should have stayed running when you turned the lights on.

Venom
Just an FYI: The alt is not designed to charge your battery back up, its only supposed to help maintain the charge while the vehicle is running. Making your alt charge up a completely dead battery is a good way of killing it. Charge the battery up completely with a charger and take it to an AutoZone/Advance for a charging system check. ns87
How is the terminal? I've had a stripped screw on my terminal and that led to all sort of weird stalling issues when I'd turn on the radio, etc.
88Regal Limited
Terminals are fine, I had the battery in and out a few times. And I'm guessing it's just the batttery is just completely dead. My charger is on the fritz again I guess. I just hope the alternator isn't going out, I don't want to put anymore money into this car just to move it around the damn yard till next year! brianstarr58
I just had to have the alternator replaced on my 95 Cutlass Convertible. It killed a brand new battery in a day and a half...twice. I had to pay 375.00 and was told that that was cheap. If you can, have it checked.
